I have always been a saver I had a 30-year mortgage I paid off in 14 years no car payment no debt. I have pretty much always bought my clothing and household items used whenever I could. At the grocery store I buy markdown meat and other markdown items I use paper coupons and digital coupons. I quit working my full-time job 2 years ago at the age of 65 living on Social Security only no Employee Retirement I do have a 401k and Roth IRA and about a year-and-a-half liquid savings. I would have to say right now my biggest splurge is dining out twice a week With Friends that I'm not willing to give up. Out of my social security check of 1069 I put 200 straight to savings I pay my utility bills and whatever else I have to pay that month then divide the rest of the money by however many weeks there is till my next social security check. I thinkI live as well off as I did when I was working full-time and had a house and car payment.

It baffles me that folks so easily forgot the lessons of the recent past. The truth is that the good life is extremely inexpensive and good home cooking is an essential part of it. The fact is that compared to it, eating out is a disappointment. Come the next recession I'll have my pick of distressed assets that spenders so readily lose...pity.
