Lord of the Rings - Total War Leaks?

Apparently there have been many Total War "Leaks" lately, from Medieval 3, to a Tolkien Middle Earth themed fantasy title, to a historical Alexander the Great Saga.

In this video, I will go over all of them, covering all specific details, and explaining why I do not believe them to be true, however giving them the benefit of the doubt where I can.

Again, I don't believe these leaks, but still thought I should at least cover them in detail as little things like this I and many other enjoy.
However, I also don't think a Lord of the Rings Total War is as IMPOSSIBLE as many make it out to be, especially now.

Lord of the Rings would be an absolute Home Run in my opinion. They already have the monster making experience, and that’s a massive fan base that could be tapped and brought in. That’s my number one dream. Number two is a new Napoleon or Empire game or even remastered would be okay with new features and units

The thing that caught my attention the most is the possibility of a future Med3 being in a different engine. That would send the warscape engine to retirement, hopefully, and then we can hope to have something way better, at the risk of having someting worse... but leaves me hopeful

Mate, CA would sell us the Play button as DLC if they could, I'm full on expecting factions like Hungary or Denmark to be DLC as well.

I just love the idea of a mayan priest looking into the stars than looking back and trying to explain what a god damn videogame is to the rest of the aztecs.

I honestly hope they were gonna do a Renaissance theme, with characters like Charles v and his landskencts or the Tercios or France with his Swiss mercenaries and the italian condottieri. Imagine like historical battles like Pavia in 1525 or mulhberg or again the battle of spurs. Then you can add the dlc with America and the Incas and the conquistadores. I mean it’s perfect.

In reality though even if medieval 3 does come out it won't play like medieval 2. The gameplay has completely changed in the last ~15 years.

CA really is doing a Tolkien based game. In it you'll mark papers, smoke a pipe, and work on making conlangs for Elves.

Agreed about nothing serious being announced before WH3. That just makes sense.
I also think the LoTR license is no longer out of reach, for the very same reasons you gave. Ol' Christopher was notoriously difficult to deal with.
I think the farther removed the family representatives are from JRR's lifetime, the less "elitist" and restrictive they will be about products in his universe.
I even think some may be viewing George R. R. being called the "Next" or "New" Tolkien as a slap in the face or a challenge.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if we see a few LoTR projects being handed to proven developers for commercial release.
Not a shotgun mindset that GW has. Just let everybody make games in our name and let's see what sells... But, maybe a few proven companies that have taken I.P.s to greater commercial success.

A LOTR total war is highly probable because LOTR is the most popular fantasy novel and also because it's easier and cheaper to get the license nowadays because Christopher Tolkien died some time ago and now the business which manages LOTR license is more open to give it than Christopher

CA would be absolutely insane not to do a LoTR Total War. Theres just so much potential for a stupid amount of money to be made with how much story there is to put into several games and DLC's revolving around the different Ages of Middle Earth

A LOTR TW would be easy and feasible for CA, they could just clone WH again, and the Tolkien estate goons have warmed up to lending out their IP with all the recent LOTR games and apparent upcoming TV series

An Alexander Total War should be its own mainline game, not just a saga, due to the size of the map and all the cultures involved

Total War: Lord of the Rings would be a dream come true for me. But I don't think they'll get the license for a reasonable price. Amazon had to pay half a billion US$ just for the license for their Middle earth series, even if CA had to pay only a tenth of that, they will never make that amount of money with the game. Especially if they wanna go with the movie designs, because then they need even more permissions.

It would be awesome if CA made a good Alexander saga after what we ended up with from Rome I, they need to cater to historical fans more. I think it would also be interesting if CA went into the Bronze Age for a game.

By the way Melkor, you’ve gone up something like 200 subs since you came back. The community isn’t dead yet!

They no way they can put off medieval 3 properly, remember Rome 2. Medieval 3 should have at least 5 year in the making.
