The Chase trifecta consist of the chase freedom flex, the chase freedom unlimited, and either the chase sapphire reserve or sapphire preferred cards. The freedom flex and freedom unlimited cards are both completely free while the sapphire preferred comes in at $95 per year and the sapphire reserve comes in at a much higher $550 per year. So depending on which sapphire card you go with you could get the chase trifecta which is 3 credit cards that all serve a purpose which we’ll cover in a second for justice 95 bucks per year.

The American Express trifecta on the other hand consists of the American Express blue business plus, the American Express gold card, and the American Express platinum card. The blue business plus card is $0.00 per year however the Amex gold is $250 per year and the Amex platinum is $695 per year meaning for this trifecta you're looking at $945 a year which is a lot more than the chase trifecta. OK but putting all that aside why in the world are this credit card is so powerful when put together and again which one should you get?

Well, the big advantage of combining multiple cards together from the same company is that you're really going to diversify your spending bonus categories and earn as many points as possible for that particular company. To give you a real world example of what I'm talking about here, the American Express platinum card is going to cover the travel side of things with five points on a flights booked directly with American Express, as well as a number of premium travel benefits like airport lounge access, a TSA pre-check credit, and even a complimentary Hilton and Marriott gold elite status among others. However it doesn't do a whole lot on the dining or foods side of things so the American Express gold card it picks up the slack by offering four points on dining and US supermarkets but only offers three points on flights. Then the blue business plus card comes in offering a simple two points per dollar on your first $50,000 of annual spending meaning it's going to help fill in those gaps where the other cards fall short.

If you're brand new to the credit card space and you're just trying to take it more seriously then I would definitely start off with the chase trifecta number one because it is much more affordable but number two remember the chase does have that pesky of 5/24 rule. So you could always set up the chase trifecta first see how that works for you and then if you decide that you'd like to try American Express as well you can start working on that one next but I would definitely not go and open all six of these credit cards at once because that would be horrible for your credit score, insanely expensive, and pretty difficult for you to implement in an efficient way right out of the gate if you are brand new to the credit card space.

Here's my rebuttal to Chase being a better trifecta.

1. Flexibility: earning points Chase is flexible, but with only 11 transfer partners (and delta isn't one of them), that's a big disadvantage when Amex has 17.

2. All of Chase transfer partners redeem at 1:1 with highly rare occasions of redemption bonuses where Amex has Hilton that transfers at a 1:2 ratio and Amex has good redemption bonuses usually at the end of each year.

3. Amex Trifecta costs more but their welcome bonuses are considerably higher and the benefits double the annual fee.

Lastly the earning potential ceiling is higher with amex than with Chase trifecta bc all 3 are charge cards with no preset spending limit.

For me, the biggest deal is the lack of transfer partners compared to Amex

I used your referral code for rewards max and I LOVE IT! Everything in one place with is huge to me. Thank you!!!
Interesting you made a video about this. I have been going back and forth between chase and AMEX because of the service. Amex has way better customer service BUT chase has an outstanding rewards redemption portal that is by far way more easier to use then Amex. If it wasn’t for the customer service and purchase protection that Amex offers I would definitely use chase! (I still might)

Fantastic video! I do prefer the chase trifecta the most. More flexibility and points are worth more. Personal have the csr and cfu just gotta wait a few more months to get the last chase card!

I personally prefer to use cards with no annual fees from a few different banks. Ex: 4% on restaurants from US Bank, 3% on travel from Bank of America, 2% on everything else Citi

Great video!
Question - I have the AE Platinum card. It’s worth it to me because I travel a lot and love the lounge access and other benefits. I’m big on airport lounges. Looking to get one more credit card with free lounge access. I’m over the 5/24 with Chase. You recommend the Citi/AAdvantage Executive World Elite MasterCard for the Admirals club or Delta Skymiles Reserve for the Delta SkyClub access? I’m all about the lounges and rewards/mile points.
