I think that the Constitution is damn near perfect, and the conflicts we are seeing today are a result of a rather rapid decline in communities coming together through houses of worship, town halls and other gatherings. We engage less with each other, understand less of each other, and The Constitution can protect us from a lot, but not decaying ideals.

The People are not participating with the local/state governments as much as is required to function properly. So, the federal government is doing what it's designed to do, and is getting too powerful while the states whimper and complain. The checks and balances relate to several dynamics in a constitutional republic.

If a single faction cannot rule, then factions must unite in common cause to gain a ruling majority. But factions being factions have primary interests that are not in common. It seems to me that Madison suggests that minority factions will fracture over their own interests before they can unite enough political power to dominate the majority of opposing factions, thus preserving the republic. Am I reading that right? If so, the goal of uniting minority political factions under a unitary executive authority to overthrow the republic itself would be, literally, fascism.

Unfortunately, for Madison, none of the limits on faction, that he promised in Federalist 10, actually existed in the Constitution, as passed out of the convention and presented to the States. Fortunately for Madison, the so called antifederalists handed him opportunity to correct that error in the first Congress after the Constitution was ratified.

This is why I despise the progressive ideology. The idea that the constitution is a “living, breathing document”, subject to change with time and technology, so as to “progress” as a society without the checks the constitution places on power. Tech may change, fashion, etc. but, one thing remains the same and that’s human nature. Viewing the constitution as inscribed in stone, unchanging and unyielding, that’s what we need to institute.

Faction doesn't mean division it means 'club' esp in terms of demographic. The division exists between two or more clubs not as or in one club. Just sayin.
