Chip's Challenge LP Part 1 (Levels 1 - 10)

Part 1 of my LP of Chip's Challenge. Here, I will just play the Microsoft port of the game on a VM. I recently found a way to run this game on a modern machine, but unfortunately OBS doesn't allow pop-up messages to show up in the final video. They show up while recording, but in the finished product you won't see them. I feel it's important for viewers to see them so they know what they're watching and seeing on the screen. Since it works in a VM without issues, as much as I hate to, I will have to go this route.

This is a game that I grew up with in the 90s and it was included in one of the Microsoft Entertainment Packs. I'm pretty sure that's how I found out about the game, as I'm not sure how my computer had a copy of the game otherwise. I also remember playing this game from time to time at a local computer store that used to exist in my hometown.

As explained, this shares a lot of similar elements with the game Lemmings, which is an online community that I'm a part of. The goal is to collect a certain number of chips in order to pass through the socket and reach the blue exit square. Most levels have a time limit, so you will need to reach the exit before time runs out. If you don't, it's considered a loss, and you have to do the level all over again.

This is a game that I've been wanting to LP and record for quite a while. So, I'm proud to present to you a puzzle game that I really loved as a kid, though I completed several levels before I didn't play this for a very long time until I was in high school. That's when I remembered the game and proceeded to download the game online and complete the entire thing so that my curiosity can be satisfied. Yes, through all the craziness and madness, I played and completed all 149 levels.

I think the plan here is to do 10 levels per video, though that might change for the later videos, particularly since a lot of levels are very long and difficult on top of it. I'll do my best in any case.

This video covers the first 10 levels of the game. The first 8 are tutorial levels teaching the player the rules and mechanics of the game. Level 10 needed two attempts to complete. It's been a while since I've played the game, so I don't exactly remember all the solutions. Almost ran into the bug that you may possibly encounter in the level if you take too long in the level, for example.

Wow, this is an old one and a fun one! To explain the monster behaviour:

- Blobs move randomly.
- Pink balls reverse direction if they hit an obstruction.
- Fireballs turn right when they hit an obstruction (if they can't turn right, they turn left, and if they can't turn left, they reverse) and are immune to fire.
- Gliders (which look a bit like OR-gates!) turn left when they hit an obstruction (if they can't turn left, they turn right, and if they can't turn right, they reverse) and are immune to water.
- Blue walkers turn in a random direction when they hit an obstruction.
- Tanks stop when they hit an obstruction (and remain stationary even if the obstruction is cleared) and reverse when a blue button is pressed.
- Bugs / Wasps follow the left wall and avoid environmental hazards like fire.
- Caterpillars / Paramecia follow the right wall and avoid environmental hazards.
- Teeth chase chip.

Let's do this!

I believe CCLP2 was intended as an alternative to CC2 (which could not be released yet at the time), whereas CCLP1 was intended as an alternative to this game (which I think was at the time no longer obtainable). Incidentally, both CC1 and CC2 have since been released on Steam.
