Hey Luke, Mobs spawn only when there is a mob spawner nearby or if its dark. You need to put torches and light your house up bro so mobs won't spawn.

Some tips for Luke:
1. Hold sprint, W and jump key to travel faster (simply jumping while sprinting).
2. If your resources are scattered in inventory/chest you can just double click on the item to stack it up.
3. Craft campfire, you can cook your food in it without wasting coals in furnace.
4. You can activate subtitles from settings, it makes easy to know what's going on in surrounding.

Tip — luke put alot torch in ur base to prevent the dangerous mobs to spawn
Tip2 — you can attach ur animal with a lead in a fence
Tip3 —make armor with iron
Tip4 —use F3 for coordinates
So you can see where is your house
