Them and the Yardbirds were WAYYYY ahead of their time!! Great '60s psychedelic music.
And to think that Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page were all in the Yardbirds at one time or

As a guitar player, I have to say this is one of the best rock grooves of all time. Bo Diddley rhythm, great bass line, harp, Van's voice and a great back beat by the drummer. A true classic!

While Elvis had matured and was no longer singing rockers like "Hound Dog", here in the states we were treated to the 'teen idols', as in Frankie Avalon, Fabian, Bobby Rydell, etc. Then there was Brenda Lee singing all of her slow love songs, and Connie Francis mixing it up with rock and roll and ballads. The only groups going at the time were the Beach Boys singing songs about surfing, and the Ventures, an instrumental group. Sugar Shack and Sukiyaki, safe music because the record companies had tamed rock and roll in order to appeal to a larger audience, thus more sales, dominated the charts.

Across the pond, the Brits grew up on our music. Think of all the early 60s groups who later swept into America and dominated it, and you will note that it was the rock and roll of the 50s coming back at us, and it was, in my humble opinion, the long awaited and much needed revival of the genre. Thanks to everyone from the UK and Ireland. Sadly, that lasted perhaps three or so years, and then music split into so many different genres.

Love this one. Reminiscent of a Yardbirds "rave-up" and would later influence the Dead's "Caution."
