This is exactly what my Dad taught me 40 years ago: try both and use whichever feels most natural. The overlap has always felt way more comfortable to me (I still try the interlock for fun sometimes but it feels SO alien). For me, I think it's the benefit of having more fingers in contact with the club--when I use the interlock it feels like the club could fly out of my hands. I'm also very right handed and having extra fingers of the weak hand on the grip helps balance things for me.

good explanation...i recently discovered also that the interlock grip keeps your elbows closer rogether and more out in front of your body while overlap gets arms sruck behind body..

In between both right now. Overlap is giving way more wrist movement but I’ve been interlocking since I picked up golf 7 months ago.

Playing with overlap today to see how the ball striking goes

The problem I had with the interlocking grip was interlocking too deeply with the pinkey between the pointer and index fingers caused the club face to close causing me to hook the ball

I've been using interlocking since I started playing. Switched to overlap today and immediately noticed a lot more consistency in striking and ball flight, for my swing (~95mph driver speed). Interlocking may be better for higher swing speeds. In 25 years I haven't mastered it though 😂. Going to try overlap for awhile, even though it feels so weird to me.

Thanks for the video.

Always used the interlock. Felt weird at first but played so much better. Golfing for 25 years

Fantastic point about the wrist flexibility. 👍

Interlock is absolutely killing my pinky!! I feel like I’m going to have to change to the overlap

I was taught if you have the right grip (standard in my case) for your hands, you should keep your thumbs at 11 and 1 o’clock with the overlapping grip.

I started out with overlap and was getting better strike and distance but some control. With interlock I get more control and get it to where I want it to go but no distance and I slip in my hands on my downswing. Even tho I have a jumbo grip

I always use overlap but I got a blister on my right ring finger knuckle from rubbing with my glove hand. So I’m about to try interlock.

I’m a baseball grip type of guy, is this bad??

I have larger palms and shorter fingers. I’ve found overlap works well for me. Does my hand size and grip I use have any correlation

I was taught to do neither grips, just to grip the club like a baseball bat, it worked and then i got a coach and i was told to do a interlock or overlap, and it messed me up, but i have to do one of them bc of my coach

Is this for irons only or also driver and woods?

Interlock grip seems to make u fight a duck hook on every shot, so u have to make the grip really weak (rotate hands on club counter clockwise, which i hate that feeling when swinging).
So I’ll probably go back to overlap grip like i did when i was a kid and i shot mid to low 70’s then. The interlock grip is garbage I believe. My hands are medium-large…Little larger average id say.

60yrs ago the club pro taught me the overlap. It's whatever you're comfortable with.

Don’t a majority of tour players use overlap?
