Before joining the Autobots, Drift was once known as Deadlock. He was a ninja, a tough warrior with a brutal and merciless nature, as he was still part of the Decepticon faction. In the IDW comic series, he was a street robot with no home, often stealing energon to survive. Feeling guilty about what he had done, Deadlock eventually joined the Autobots and changed his name to Drift.
