Let’s Talk Facts – Hindu Population Decline in Pakistan vs. Muslim Population Growth in India

In 1947, Hindus made up around 15–20% of Pakistan’s population. Today, that number has dropped to under 2%. Here's why:

80% due to migration (especially during Partition)

10% due to forced conversions

1% due to killings and communal violence

9% due to underreporting or hidden identity


Meanwhile in India, Muslim population has grown steadily—from around 10% in 1951 to over 14% in 2011. If Muslims were truly persecuted in India, we’d have seen a mass exodus—not consistent growth, political representation, and participation in every aspect of society.

This alone exposes the failure of the Two-Nation Theory, which falsely claimed Hindus and Muslims couldn’t coexist.
History has shown: India protected its diversity, while Pakistan and Bangladesh systematically lost theirs.

Let’s not forget that during Partition, millions of Sikhs also fled what is now Pakistan, due to targeted violence and persecution. The trauma of forced migration didn’t stop in 1947—the Kashmiri Hindu exodus of the 1990s is a modern example of what real persecution looks like, even within democratic India.

Yet, despite all of this, India has stood as a refuge for the persecuted for over 1, 000 years:

Jews fleeing Roman and Islamic persecution

Zoroastrians (Parsis) escaping Iran

Baháʼís escaping oppression in Iran

Tibetan Buddhists, including the Dalai Lama himself, seeking sanctuary All of them found peace and dignity in India, without being asked to change their faith or identity.


People who try to equate India and Pakistan on minority treatment are either misinformed or willfully ignoring facts. Yes, incidents happen in India too—but they are committed by a tiny minority in a country of 880+ million Hindus, and are widely condemned, investigated, and punished.

Hindu philosophy has never believed in religious supremacy or forced conversion.
Its ethos is rooted in “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”—the world is one family.
Violence is not in the natural way of life of a Hindu.

So no, you can’t compare the treatment of Muslims in Hindu-majority India to the treatment of Hindus in Islamic nations. The difference is not just political—it’s civilizational.
