Their name was Marius’ Mule. And the armour and weapon and shield plus marching kit got up to 40kg.

The pilum was made to pierce through enemy shields . The barb made it difficult to remove from the shield in the heat of battle causing the enemy to discard the shield leaving them vulnerable.
I have never read whether the pilim easily bent . I would dispute this as it was made of solid iron .
Yes the enemy was less likely to throw them back as the would most likely be embedded in enemy shields .

That’s nothing compared with what modern soldiers pack. Probably twice as much weight. I can’t speak to how far they are expected to March with it though
