pro tip: if you want to change the color of existing notes, highlight the notes, click the color you want, and then do the shortcut Alt+C

It's important to call out this only works for instruments native to FL. Slide notes do not work for 3rd party plugins like Serum or NI Kontakt or anything else. So for pitch bending those instruments, you typically need to use the Channel Pitch knob on the top right of the plugin near the digits box of where it's mapped on the mixer, and you have to automate that.

An alternative is to convert 3rd party instruments into a sample-based DirectWave instrument.

It's little things like this I tend to overlook in Fl studio. Half a decade of sound design using this DAW and I'm only just now finding out that color coordinating notes in the piano role allow them to function independently of one another.
