Everything Wrong With Final Destination in 21 Minutes or Less

Final Destination is a film that spawned many sequels. Death really doesn't like to be cheated. Anyway, there are more sins than you probably expected.

Next week: 2021 horror sins and more horror sins from the aughts.

Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins should we count next?

Honestly this is probably the most unique horror franchise that has every came out, and I respect it for doing things differently

One thing I will say I really enjoyed is showing them fighting in the airport and the plane explodes in the background. It is pretty realistic because the sound doesn't get there immediately. As a result, the guy watching is the only one that notices anything and everyone else is doing what they were before.

What I dig about these movies is their ability to have me walking around performing mundane tasks and picturing myself dying a a horribly violent death. NO other horror film stays with me after watching it.

Not only did Alex's parents not worry about his obsession with the plane crash, they also must not have worried about where he was when he never came home from Ms. Lewton's house, given that we never saw them during the remainder of the movie.

Honestly I feel like this first movie didn't know what it wanted to be at first. It seemed like it was trying to personify Death, by having it physically manufacture circumstances that lead to someone's death and then clean up its mess, as only a person would do. I think they really tightened up that plot line in the following movies by having situations happen more out of chance, seemingly, instead of a grand design or purposefully manipulated trap.

Although interestingly, my theory isn't that these people cheat death, but that Death actually shows its hand to certain people on purpose, to see if they react, and see if they attempt to change the plan or shake it off as a fever dream. In this way, Death can hunt, and pursue victims that are knowingly trying to outrun its plan.

Please god do the sequel. It scarred an entire generation. I’ll never get behind a truck with tree logs as long as I live

The cut from Terry's death to the antacid drink was actually added later since the audience had been too shocked and loud to pay attention to what was happening after

It has always bugged me that the first death was so obviously intelligently controlled and involved things happening that physically couldn't (the water going back into the pipe) but then every other death is just a load of concidences and bad luck that got nudged into happening at the same time. That first one is a real odd one out.

What you said about the buss driver is funny. In one of the Final Destination books the main character actually happens to be the bus driver that hit Terry. He was speeding because his company was getting on drivers about their timing. But he does serve time in prison for vehicular manslaughter. Only to lose everything once he’s out and ends up homeless on the streets of NYC, where Final Destination Death of the Senses kicks off.

Final Destination 2 contains the greatest car crash scene in cinematic history. An absolute masterpiece.

Fun fact about the antacid scene, test screen audiences were so rowdy when the bus hit Terry that the filmmakers had to add 40 or so seconds of inconsequential “chill-out” time to calm people down

Learned this from Dead Meat

I’m not a horror fan, but this is honestly such a good movie series.
Even though this series is responsible for several of my irrational fears.

Ok, I feel like this one is added to the list of "Movies I thought were already sinned yet here we are".

This whole franchise does a great job in playing with people’s greatest fears and paranoia

Terry's bus kill scene really shocked me the very first time I saw it, since it happens SO out of the blue. Perhaps "Mean Girls" got inspiration for THEIR bus scene four years later?!

I find it quite funny when people always talk about "Tod with only one D" in connection with this film, because "Tod" is the German word for "Death". And that just fits very well with this film.

Despite how many of this franchise follow the same formula, I still fall for every premonition of every sequel

You missed a sin. There's no way that a plane exploding that far away would shatter the terminal's windows
