Lyrically, this album came from a very personal and honest place. We had a lot of time to work on the lyrics even before we began tracking. Here’s a little look into the lyrical process and inspiration behind Hushed and Grim.

Fantastic album. These dudes know how to create atmosphere which is, I think, the greatest quality a musician can have. Each track drives an emotion to create a sonic landscape that blends overall into a melancholy yet blissful amalgam. I saw another commenter on "Pain with an anchor" say these dudes aren't musicians, they are sorcerers. I think that is accurate. Thank you guys. This album is a gift that came at a time of hopelessness and despair.

So glad I got to see these guys in Philly yesterday. The new songs they played are obviously the least I’m familiar with since the songs on past albums I’ve had 100+ listens to. The new songs sounded as if I’ve heard them just as many times as the rest of the setlist. They are timeless and Mastodon definitely does not have to worry about touring on these songs for the next 10+ years. This is a great album.
