This is why i hope to dear god i don’t get dementia, losing your sense of self is a fate worse than dying.

What a horrific disease. Horrible last chapter of your life and for your loved ones to go through

I've heard one similar: a wife had dementia and the husband came to the nursing home regularly to visit. She forgot him but he would court her and her woo all over again. he proposed, she said yes, and the staff and residents attended the ceremony.
this would occur every couple of months as the wife would forget and the husband would do it all over again. He loved every second of it!
This went on for a few years until she passed away, but he proposed once more before she passed and of course, her last words were her acceptance.
That story gave me the sniffles

My dad told me that if he ever came down with dementia, to leave him in the middle of the woods during winter wearing nothing but shorts. I've worked in long-term care facilities, and I can't lie, I would ask my own son the same thing my dad asked me.

The passing of the dog who saved me from myself twice. He was a 14.5 year old pitbull. I miss my best friend.

My grandmother has dementia, it’s really hard to watch especially for my grandmother. Dementia is often harder on the family/loved ones of the person who actually has it. I’m just grateful that she sweet and kind, I’ve heard that some people can get very aggressive.

I was attending a religion class once and the priest started praying for a parishioner's health. It was a pretty tragic situation. After the prayer, I said, "Pray that the mind and body leave at the same time." The priest agreed that was a good prayer.

That's not heartbreaking, it's beautiful of how she loves him so much that she is loving him to the very end.

Working in a nursing home and a hospital, I have seen things like this, it’s heartbreaking. I hope I pass on long before I start to lose myself or become unable to care for myself. I don’t ever want to put my loved ones through something like that.

He may not remember her but she remembered him and all the joys and sorrows they endured together for 60 years. She is true to her vowes of in sickness and in health, till death do us part……God bless them both ❤

My grandma was recently diagnosed with dementia. She's still herself now but I don't want to think about the future. We caught it early luckily. So I visit her and spend the night at her house once a week. I don't want her to forget.

My father and I went through this with my mother. Dementia has to be one of the most gut-wrenching things to go through, because the person you love is gone, even though their body is still alive.

I'm grateful to not have to have seen my aunt and uncle get to this stage, seeing them deteriorating each time hurt more and more. The one thing that helped is they never forgot me or anyone close to them. I can only imagine the pain and grief this woman is going through/went through.
