I'm Mongolian which is central Asia. In here we speak many different languages but its not cuz of our neighboring country. We learn many languages cuz of pop culture. Almost every gen z speaks english, japanese, korean cuz of rising popularity of streaming services, anime and kpop. Recently learning German is thing now among 30+ people for some reason.

True. My aunt's parents were living in Uzbekistan with her for a long time, they are tatar and after years they moved to Bashkortostan and later to Tatarstan. So they know 5 languages in total.

My partner is Kazakh and from the Kazakh SSR but he apparently is only fluent in Russian. I guess he didn’t use anything else during childhood?
