I’m a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. I am one of the many, many citizens upset about the lack of transparency, the lack of access to COVID Relief Funds, the poor visibility to announce application for said funds as well as some of the other choices made in how allocations from the CARES Act have been spent by the current administration.

If the Cherokee Nation, administratively, is not acting in accordance with the majority of the citizens, it is corrupt, by definition. And simply because more citizens haven’t voiced their disapproval does not mean they approve. It may mean they are not engaging their district council, not social media literate, too elderly or sick to be plugged into current affairs with this Nation. It could also be a result of the intimidation that is exercised by this administration to “be grateful” for what we have or it, too, will “make for a long day.” Isn’t that what was said today—be a “glass half full” or, essentially, we will have a tough time? Very disheartening to hear that the authority granted to help us is, instead, being used to oppress us.

Further, I, for one, do not appreciate how dismissive the majority of tribal councilors were today regarding the issue of our petition and the bill sponsored by Wes Nofire and co-sponsored by Councilor Buzzard. Like Councilor Nofire explained numerous times, he is merely a messenger for the will of the people. To dismiss him, berate him and be angry with him, you are dismissing, berating and being angry with THE PEOPLE.

If we do not get an opportunity to inspect the books for a line-by-line, itemized accounting of the Cares Funds, including the COVID Relief Funds, we the people will move forward with other measures to get it! We will win, not our appointees!!!

I heard on tv that Cherokee nation got granted money to fix house. Up we need are house fix on the in side and out side. Thank you all for fixing are heat and air. You can please help us again
