I always disagreed with that theory. That it takes a Creator to make us special. The fact that we evolved in such happenstance and random circumstances that at any state could have derailed and not resulted in what we are today is infinitely more special to me than some cosmic toddler snap his fingers and made some toys to play with.

Last time I saw the ape thing mentioned, so many people in the comments didn't understand we are apes. And not because of religion. They accepted evolution and all that. They just didn't think we were apes. They thought we were something different some how. Wonder if they are here again.

Idk man it kinda makes me feel extra special. Trillions and trillions of lifeforms had to mutate just right over millions and millions of years, wars had to be fought, species had to go extinct, bad people had to kill good people, my parents had to meet at just the right time, and stay together at least long enough to have kid, as did theirs and so on and so forth, just for me to open my fuckin eyes, and thats pretty goddamn special if you ask me. Certainly much cooler than if a skydad just *poofed* us into existence.

As someone who has never been a diehard Christian and has always understood evolution, it really never occurred to me that this could be the real problem that they have with evolution. If you can see it from this angle, it is definitely true that Christianity is a very self-centered religion.

When our students asked, "Do you believe that you evolved from apes?" my colleague answered, "No both humans and apes evolved from a common ancestor." I told her that her answer skirted the issue. I said I tell my students, "Not only did we evolve from apes, we are still apes." I don't believe in wiggle room.

But when it by necessity makes other things less special, it is less benign.
Succinctly, feeling special is safe enough. Feeling superior, is treading on dangerous ground.

Small correction, we didn't evolve from apes. Man and Ape had a COMMON ANCESTOR around 6 million years ago

We are apes its not a bad thing we are the most evolved apes so far. There is so much support for the ancient age of the earth you basically have to ignore the evidence for it at this point.
