Wilkerson & Jay: Don’t Despair, Organize

preview_player
Показать описание
Col. Lawrence Wilkerson and Paul Jay analyze Trump's 2024 victory, attributing Harris's failure in part to a campaign that avoided progressive policies that would lower the cost of living - to please billionaire donors.

Wilkerson warns of a climate catastrophe and a draconian Trump administration that leads to the collapse of American society. Jay argues Harris's defeat creates an opening for a broad democratic, independent movement that takes control of the Democratic Party at state and local levels.

Both emphasize organizing in major cities in Democratic-controlled states, focusing on mobilizing the working poor, urban and rural, who usually don't vote - a potentially game-changing constituency the Democratic establishment has ignored.

I tried knocking on doors back in 2017 and my neighbor pulled a gun in my face. Col. Wilkerson nailed it. I'm a little fairly old woman. Didn't matter. But I haven't given up. It is difficult to manage to get people to talk about meaningful things.

Just watched Col. Wilkerson with Chris Hedges. Subscribed to your channel because of your guest.

I applaud you both for discussing Climate Change. I am preparing to leave Phoenix, after 30 years. Heat plus lack of rain, yet they keep developing and building. Insanity.

We must resist!! We must organize and have clear goals and act!

@21:45, you ain't lying, the billionaire class has such a stranglehold on power and politics in the US, voting our way out of all this just doesn't seem realistic anymore.

There is a quip attributed to Winston Churchill, "You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing (dramatic pause) ...after they have exhausted all other possibilities."
It could be this time we don't have the luxury to work our way through the possibilities.

Larry, I listen to you every chance I get, mostly you are on Nima's channel. Number one that you always drive home is Ukraine, and it isn't good to play chicken with Putin. For all the loss of Biden mentally, he knew what not to do. Harris, who is she, who controls her? Trump has stated he wants out of there ASAP, so has Vance. Hopefully, we get this put to the end.

I was so focused on the conversation between Wilkerson & Jay I didn't even notice the background...

I really appreciate that Larry understands the terrifying consequences of climate change and is committed to doing something about it. I actually really like the idea of putting together a team to build a disaster management system. However, the idea that the ruling elite (oligarchs) don’t understand how brutal and chaotic it can all get is a bit naive. They understand very well. In fact, they’re way ahead of the game. Why do you think there’s been a sudden explosion of Cop City projects all across the country that are largely funded by private corporations? These Cop Cities are for the purpose of training law enforcement in “urban warfare.” They justify these projects with constant fear mongering about rising crime rates that are not borne out by the data. In reality, they want cops trained in “urban warfare” because they understand that life is going to get pretty bad for most people relatively soon and they expect people to be rioting in the streets.
So in addition to planning for disaster management, we should also be organizing to counter the oligarchs and their insidious plans to continue to hoard wealth while mowing us down when we demand better than squalor and misery. Because the reality is, large scale mobilization, like the kind Larry is suggesting, requires resources (aka money) and we’re going to have to claw it back from those greedy bastards if we intend to survive and avoid complete societal collapse.

I think you could have (should have?) had this exact same discussion (more or less) if Harris had won the election.

A predicament is described as not solvable. Increased oil production will lower costs across the board. Our profligate ways must be tempered, the billionaires must find a way to give back, and the homeless must be housed, drug addicted or not.

Larry Wilkinson should get in touch with Nate Hagens. He is working on a bend not break climate crisis plan.

Mr Trump should commission a statue to he that won the election for him: Peanut the Squirrel.

They don't knock on doors. But I had a trash can full of color postcards. They think people read them not that there's anything of value on them, .

Paul Beckwith could help Larry Wilkinson collect the climate information he has a pretty good YouTube channel following new developments.

Great conversation. I look forward to hearing more, and taking action.

Any discussion like this that doesn’t consider the racial and fascist aspect of this race, which was the most dominant aspect of the race is myopic and not getting to the heart of why she really lost this race Trump ran on race. Every question he answered had something to do with migrants, eating cats and dogs, the people who voted for him voted with their animal instincts, and those are the instincts that Trump tapped into. I was disappointed, but not surprised. I would’ve probably been more surprised if she had won like Mr. Wilkerson pointed out. The real disappointment is that people picked him to be their leader with all of the baggage he already had. Get ready for insanity.
