So much good information!!! One other thing people should consider in deciding above ground pool versus in ground pool. An in ground pool is forever. If someday you find yourself not using it - kids have grown, and maybe you are not a big swimmer, etc. - you still have the pool with all the maintenance and expenses which are considerable. An above ground pool is not that big a deal to get rid of and then repurpose that section of your yard.

We purchased a 28' Doughboy pool in 1992. We still have it and it is used constantly in the summer. The deep end at 6ft deep and shallow end is 3.5' deep. We also have a deck around the entire pool. With nice steps and a gate. The key to keeping any pool is the care you put into it. The original cost of the pool was $5000. May a few hundred for the excavation of the deep and shallow ends.

After owning and setting up so many above ground pools growing up, I have to say go salt water. I don’t think you mentioned it in your video. Every single one of my pools was normal chemical chlorine, but my last pool I setup i did salt water. This was quite a few years ago, 4 or 5. You pour in a bag or two of pool salt when you first fill the pool. depending on your pool size. You also add a small salt water system inline before your filter. The system runs for a few hours every day when you run the filter. It uses the salt in the water to generate chlorine. You can directly control your chlorine levels by simply letting the machine run longer. If you need to shock the pool after a rain storm or after heavy use, you simply let the machine run longer to generate more chlorine. You never have to add more salt unless you drain the water, as salt doesn’t evaporate. The correct salt levels are also so low you can barely if at all smell or taste salt. I personally loved it. I never had to buy chlorine or shock, and that saved so much money over the season I had that pool up. After looking recently, it appears the machine I had, the intex Krystal clear system is discontinued. I paid $50 for it at Walmart at the time. Now those or similar systems are in the upper $100 to $200 price range. I’m wondering if those machine lowered the profit margins of chlorine sales, so they discontinued offering it to boost sales. Just a thought. But you should still definitely look into salt water pools.

I just ordered a 10/30in wire frame pool(mearteve brand) ..I have 3 kids. 16, 10 and 2. I thought it was a better idea, so it's not huge but a great idea for a whole family to hang out in.This year for the state of Maine is already crazy humid . (Very odd weather for June already, here) I also didn't want to get something extraordinary, so it's safer for a toddler to learn how to swim, and to learn how to learn to take care of a pool. My daughter is 16 and wanted an ingrown pool, but I negotiated with her because of the prices and to learn how to take care of one. And way better than those plastic blow up ones. Maybe next year If this year If this is taken care of, I'll look at a bigger one next year

So helpful! Want to try an above ground pool for a season before considering an in ground or swim spa. The kids say they want to swim...but...also, single mom here, so dont want to go into debt! This really helps me make up my mind on trying a pool!

Thank you for such great information. As a new home owner, I need all this great information. I skipped a house with an underground pool for worrying about electricity hitting the water. I guess I am still traumatized when I got electrocuted in a pool

We picked up the intex sand filter this year. Game changer. Well worth the $125. The cartridge style they come with are not big enough for a fish tank much less a pool. We have the 9x18 above ground. Next purchase is going to be the salt system.

Good luck trying to even find a pool! A few people have been lucky to find one, but the same folks who hoarded toilet paper during COVID-19, bought pools to use as a Giant BIDET. Some folks think of everything! To beat this heat I dug a large hole and lined it with garbage bags, filled it with water... talk about dog days of summer, this heat is killing me!

Just finished building my inground myself. Cost about 20, 000 and I saved 10s of thousands on labour. Now I got a 36 feet 15 feet deep inground

Thank you, good suggestions, but unfortunately not this year. With supply chain disrupted, prices of all the above ground pools skyrocketed.

Thank you for this video. We're going tomorrow and purchasing a 15x30x52 Oval pool from H&H. They do the install and everything. The total price is just a little over $5000 which is leaving me alot of room for a wrap around deck.

As an inground pool owner for most of by a above ground pool in a heart beat. My pool is 23 years old and I do my own maintenance on my pool. That includes replacing my pool pumps twice and doing all the plumbing. The thing that kills me is my two pool liner replacements....4000 a pop. I live in the north east and wintwrs are hard on liners. Inground gunite pools don't far any better because of the freeze thaw cycle. Np6t to mention evey frog, garden snake and poor little rabbits that drown in my pool that as a father I clean every day before my faimly wakes and jumps in for fun in the sun. When I was 12 yrs old we had a above ground pool and maintaining it was a whole lots easier. Remember all pipes are buried. I had to replace a broken pipe once. I had to break up patio to get to the pipe. If I weren't a handy guy I would go broke. Get the aboveground pool and put a nice deck around it. Your kids won't know the difference. Inground pools are just a waste o time and money! !!

Hi from Australia! Great video. I love the Intex style pool. Just retired ours, was 14 ft diameter, 3 1/2 feet deep. We got 6 years out of it! The poles unfortunately rusted out. Only cost $300 dollars but we added a sand filter and cut a hole for a skimmer. Best modifications. A skimmer makes it easier for vacuuming and adding chemicals. Just put up a 14 ft diameter 4 ft deep Bestway. Hope we get just as good life out of this one! Cheers, Kerry.

I had an intex but I decided to call a local pool company and I’ll have a 24’ round above ground pool installed for $6, 800.

got 1 of those intex 10 by 30 above ground pools and debating the cost and need to clean etc as test pool. Used to be a swimmer in high school for 2 yrs and not that young and spry anymore but like the idea of chilling in a pool still so debating the cost and lvl ground, vacuums, water testing to see what I think of the general cost and maintenance and if its worth it as I am single and have time. So any info I can glean at this point as it is already up and running with basic setup kit and net and chlorine tab floater going. Kits should definitely come with more as the setups and additional purchases that need to be made are not outlined or suggested at all as useful info and as a novice pool owner there is still a lot to consider and buy to maintain a healthy pool.

Thanks for this video. Very helpful. Prices in Canada are a bit different. I've been quoted $17, 000 for pool and installation from pool company. I've decided to buy direct from manufacturer pool $8, 000 and install $ 3, 000. Sounds high but inground $114, 000! So above ground it is.
