We couldn't help but dance after finding this beauty nestled at the base of an oak tree! 🌳
In Japanese, Maitake translates to “dancing mushroom” (""mai"" for ""dance"", ""take"" for ""mushroom""). Legend has it, upon finding this mushroom in the wild, people would be so excited (given its rarity and exquisite taste) they couldn't resist dancing!
Typically found at the bases of oaks and hardwoods from August through November, this earthy, subtly spicy-tasting mushroom is a forager's dream. Hidden amongst autumn leaves, its brown caps and white fringes camouflage perfectly, making the discovery even more rewarding. Perfect for sautéing, roasting, or deep frying - it’s an all round great find.
