The New Powerpuff Girls Reboot Will Be Story-Driven

Cartoon Network's The Powerpuff Girls is coming back, with original creator Craig McCracken on board. However, the new Powerpuff Girls reboot will have a massive change when it comes to the storyline. On Twitter, Craig revealed what to expect from Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup next.

Definitely interested in seeing Craig’s take on rebooting his own creations. Props to you for using the Route 104 and Route 110 themes from the Pokémon games as background music!

I am so hyped for this reboot! I am a HUGE Powerpuff Girls fan!

But sadly, Professor Utonium, HIM, and the Amoeba Boys might have to get new voices because:

1. The Amoeba Boys' voice actor, Chuck McCann, has passed away in 2018.
2. Tom Kane suffered a stroke in 2020, and then retired in 2021.

I love how their finally going have a story arc. I love shows that have an episodic nature, but each episode serves a point for the overall series. The Powerpuff Girls are back baby!

After hearing this news, I'm really looking forward to the reboot and how Craig McCracken will handle a more modern take on the Powerpuff Girls . . . Without anything obnoxious or cringy.

I don't mind the idea of it being story-driven. Maybe it could like Amphibia and The Owl House, story-driven with a few nice stories in-between (just hopefully lasting longer, like 5 seasons!)

If you ask me, what Craig was meaning when changing the title is more like adding a subtitle to indicate the overall story. It will still be called The Powerpuff Girls, but the additional subtitle will help it stand on its own when discussing it and will also help separate it from both the original series and the first reboot which kept the same title as the original series, in a similar fashion as Doom Eternal was to Doom 2016.

The one thing I do wonder is if this reboot is actually safe considering CN is part of WB I honestly hope this doesn't get cancelled if Zaslav decides to take a visit to CN considering this is actually something being done right and going in a good direction.

I never watched PPG as a kid because my parents never allowed me to watch Cartoon Network. However, I never realized how similar PPG is to other shows, modern or old. For example, Gen 5 of MLP. It has a story, but lots of episodes are “what’s going on now”, while still adding character development and keeping the show popular. If the new PPG is anything like MLP, I’ll be genuinely excited to see what is put on the table.

Craig McCracken is a legend of our childhoods, so if he can manage to pull it off by bringing PPG back with brand new storylines than that is what I’ve seriously been waiting for. Even though that there is still a live action on the way to which I doubt that’s what people wanted🙄, we’re still gonna look forward to what the future has in store.

I know this sounds selfish…but we need ideas like this, the OG creators rebooting the shows but adding new changes and new and longer story. The OG cartoons need to evolve like this PPG reboot (2022)

I’m so unbelievable happy, been a Powerpuffgirls fan, and I really wanted something like this, an actual continuing story for the Powerpuffgirls, and I hope it will be redeeming the RRB, I think having some villain characters who can change will be interesting to watch. Including the fact, the RRB is the crowds favourite villain

Stop saying we don't need another Powerpuff Girls series! We DO need it! After the tire fire that was the 2016 reboot that was full of terrible ideas, this new reboot with Craig McCracken is what us fans have been praying for for years!

Update on the reboot: VA Tara Strong recently visited my local fan expo this weekend and at her Q&A panel I asked what her stance was on AI. The following was her exact words:

“The problem with AI is like anything else, there’s good people and bad people. For the good people, the fact that someone who got sick or passed away, if they can use their catalogue and pay their family for a voice they helped create, that’d be pretty wonderful. Like we all know Tom Kane from The Powerpuff Girls. I think they’re gonna use his voice for the reboot, and he’s gonna get paid; we have to support his family.”

So this maybe confirms the fact that Professor Utonium and Him, should they appear in the reboot, could be played by AI. Craig McCracken’s a respectful guy so if he indeed does this for the reboot, I’m sure he can pay the residuals to Tom Kane’s estate.

That's one of the things that I don't understand about CN right now. For instance: I was super hyped knowing that Craig is coming back and OG Powerpuff Girls are gonna be hella good to watch. Everything great till I hear about Tiny Toons reboot. I was kinda very happy to hear that, because I thought they finally started to understand what it takes to make a successful reboot and this one may also be surprisingly good. But then I hear that they tossed aside the OG showrunner, replaced with someone who apparently never watched the original show (how are you gonna explain changing main characters' relationship from a couple to siblings wtf) and we're supposed just shut up and enjoy it? Ugh, it's so frustrating...
