Silver Streak- Train crash

Gene Wilder, Richard Pryor, and Scratman Crothers together as one, save the Silver Streak while the diesel engine crashes into the train station of Chicago, Illinois, USA. Thomas Comes to Breakfast style.

The train did had brakes that worked. Unfortunately, the train was all hijacked no thanks to Patrick MacGoohan as a notorious French-American criminal. I can’t tell you what happened to him, but he had to ‘quit while he was a-head’ of himself.

The next time a train does that, will give a massive bang, as I would like to call it, the kamikaze express.

Folks, this is the freaking 1970s! A lot of modern CGI can't touch this. And the overhead shot of the locomotive shattering the lights was Picasso-esque.
Chef's kiss to an epic sequence.

42 years on and it still looks totally real even by today's standards. Arthur Hiller was way before his time!

Loved this movie as a kid and its still great! This scene actually feels like its a real train crash and not a special effects shot.

This is the only runaway train movie I know where they actually go through with what I think most people who watch these kinds of films actually wanted to see at the end!!! Fantastically done. 💯

Hey look! It appears Willy Wonka opted for trains after Charlie took over his chocolate factory.

Something like this really happened, though not as devastating. On Jan 12, 1953, a runaway train smashed into Washington, DC's Union Station as the city was getting ready for the Eisenhower inauguration. The engineer had alerted the station that the brakes had failed and the train was out of control. The train came to a stop about 15 feet from the waiting room when the concrete floor collapsed beneath it. Miraculously, no one was killed or seriously hurt. If that floor hadn't collapsed, the scenario in this movie scene could have happened for real. My dad, a native Washingtonian and living there at the time, talked about it for years. There are several videos on YouTube showing the horrendous wreckage.

I remember seeing this as a kid, back when my parents loved to travel by rail (they had a later renaissance with rail later in life). While it was kind of scary, it also made it not so bad, either, as the whole crash was a bit whimsical in a way. :) Always loved that the locomotive looks like it is smiling throughout the entire crash scene.

Why are likes and dislikes disabled? This scene is so horribly epic! I love the slow motion that went on while the train was plowing through the station.

As a Torontonian, there is nothing more iconic than a locomotive parked in the Grand Hall of Union Station (Toronto standing in for both cities in the movie). I remember my glee in watching the crash in the theatre. Always fun watching local landmarks get destroyed on the big screen.

Original: "you silly engine, NOW I must cook my family some more!" This: "you silly diesel, you almost made everyone go 'oof'!"

This is so amazing! 🤩 My best friend jammy that this is the best scene 🎬 from Silver Streak! The way it crashed through the station at 0:30 was hilarious and AWESOME 👏🏻!
