I found your Box Method easier for me. But thank you for more interesting art tip.

this is another way of saying "draw two circles, then finish the FUCKING OWL!"

Allthough you should also think about the fact that things in the body are rounder than boxes and cylinders, so, dont rely on it for everything in the body, its just easy to use to map out how you want the pose itself to be. If you rely too much on boxes it starts looking stiff.

Great tips on breaking this down! However doing shakes like this alone can make the figures a little stiff. Could you cover a video about gesture drawing?

Even though I try drawing with shapes it’s still hard for me 😭🤡 I end up drawing the proportions way off and too small and keep having to scale it up more and more each time. And I end up drawing the torso too short and the legs too big. 💀

Boxes and cylinders help you with visualising the dimensions of the object in perspective and thats great. But for me i still cant draw poses from imagination cause i dont know how to balance poses. The pose has to make sense too. I guess practicing gesture will help. But i still feel somethings missing.

My problem with this is being unable to be consistent in shapes sizes and forms, can’t draw a face or form again and leading to chicken scratching which leads to unconfident lines

I feel like artists get taught this or similar techniques early in their education, struggle for years to make it look good and only through hours and hours of practice get to the impressive end result, where they don't use this technique at all. It's almost like practice makes the drawing good rather than the technique???

It's important to know how the body is structured to actually make use of this technique. At least IMO cuz I can't draw body still, it might be just skill issue tho

And as ALWAYS God puts this man in my path with JUST WHAT I NEED once again. Thank you Lord Jesus and thank you Marc!

I am still not at that level yet. I use references for everything and copy most things from reference.

I hope to one day be able to draw from imagination

How to draw 3D forms is just one part of it. You still have to learn anatomy and proportion to draw a convincing human, then you have to learn gesture, fluidity, balance, and composition to draw a pleasing figure.

This is a terrible guide, but the flour comparison is great, because this short is essentially saying, "In order to bake a 3-tiered cake with frosted decorations, you have to use flour." Yeah, no shit!

Step 1. Come up with a pose using mental imaginary
Step 2. Print it into a paper using basic shapes
Step 3. Congratulations, you have become a good printer!

Hot take: drawing from imagination is overrated. Do like Kim Jung Gi did: draw from reference. Every day, every hour, every minute, every second. Draw every single thing your eyes meet. Burn reality into your mind. The ability to draw from imagination will emerge from it.
