Every time I use Illustrator I have a physical reaction in my body born out of being totally baffled that things don't work the way I expect. I do not understand how it has survived as the industry standard.

Sorry, I'm not finished venting. Imagine if Adobe was the Honda car company. And let's say Photoshop would be an Accord. You get in, turn the key, put it in drive, foot on the pedal and off you go. Now Illustrator would be a Civic. They both made by Honda so they must be pretty much the same, right? Wrong! IN the Illustrator-Civic, you have to put the key in the trunk, sit in the passenger seat face backwards steer with the pedals and control the speed with the steering wheel and you put the car in "P" for "Proceed" and at the end of this nightmare trip you'd put the car in "D" for "Done".

that turns it a great business for tutorial makers. The same way weakness, suffering and disease gives revenue to doctors, dentists, etc

I have been a professional designer for over twenty years and welcome any opportunity to admit just how much i loath, despise and resent the lumpen unintuitive and deeply time consuming way that ilfrustrator forces your work flow. It's like Adobe asked their accounting team to design an art app. It may be industry standard but it sucks balls and no mistake. I wish someone out there would design a vector based program that you can actually be artistic with and not have to plan out everything out ahead of time like some fucking fortune teller! Great vid. :)

Illustrator is like taking a sledgehammer of gargantuan proportions to crack an ice-cream wafer. So long winded, unintuitive and obscure, it takes hours just to carry out what would appear to be the most simplest of tasks. Horrible. Absolutely horrible.

Man, watching this makes me feel like I back at newgrounds...

Anyways, It's worse when it's mandatory for college and all the assignment are just tracing an outline...
Long, boring, tedious tracing that requires no previous art skills or knowledge, and requires you to just turn your brain off just to even be able to get through this.

THANK YOU! I can begin to discribe how much I hate this program along with some of the other abobe programs (Indesign and PS are alright). And the most painful part...I HAVE TO USE I FOR SCHOOL XP

Illustrator is for people that can't draw worth a damn. If PS had built in vector real-time like SAI it'd be over. I'll stick to SAI.

Being a Photoshop user for a very long time, I tried to change my graphic designing way of work by using Illustrator, and you know what? I agree, it's really a pain in the ass. But who am I to complain? Not to mention I just used this for just 3 hours ago lmao

I grew up with Photoshop.
I hate Illustrator because NONE OF THE COMMANDS WORK THE SAME WAY!

Seriously, how can two related programs that share a similar toolset NOT have the same hotkeys!?!

Fuck Illustrator.

I HATE ILLUSTRATOR!!!! I don't understand how two products (Photoshop vs. Illustrator) are made by the same company (Adobe) and are supposed to work together (Offered in the creative suite) yet they work SO DIFFERENTLY from one another! It's called "ILLUSTRATOR" and the hardest thing to do in that program...IS TO DRAW!!!!
One of the things I hate the most is the anchor points are impossible to click on and no matter how far you zoom in the anchor points are still teeny tiny!
I know there's people out there who swear by Illustrator, and yes, I know vector has lossless scaling, but to me there is not a font big enough or a bold bold enough to properly type how much I HATE that program.
At the very least they could make the keyboard commands the same as Photoshop.

i hate it. i just had to search for "I hate Illustrator" and im glad i found this animation. "hate it with a passion" are the exact words ive been repeating to myself for the past several minutes of having to use it. trying to click on a point or select anything i want for that matter, is THE WORST experience ever. you have to click on the exact pixel in order to select anything. hate their new panels. just hate. it helps to know that im not the only one.

Agreed. Especially when you have to edit a simple vector illustration, it's too tedious. D:

There are some things in regards to 3D that Illustrator does that I like, but as an art program, Illustrator really does suck. If you want a good program for art, then I strongly recommend Clip Studio Paint Pro aka Manga Studio 5. Not only is it cheap, but it's bar none the best art program I've ever had the pleasure of working with.

Why when I re-position a pivot point doesn't stay there the next time I need it?!!!

Inkscape is so much better in terms of basics.  If only it continues to grow and add more high-level tools.

Why have I only got a max of 8 pixels tolerance to select a path?!!! I spend my life try to select shit and missing.

OMG, I am so happy I found this. And all of you commenters. I HATE ILLUSTRATOR WITH A PASSION. I teach an intro 2D graphics class (For animation/gaming degree) and had a student ask why I don't teach Illustrator or vector. My answer was along the lines of " Well, most game texture artists use Photoshop in some capacity to handle texture requirements for their games, and it's a very useful tool to have. Vector games exist, but not as much, and not really the focus of this class." Then I ended it with "Plus, I just hate Illustrator. It's an obtuse program." ... They were slackjawed. lol...

I hated it... just start using it for about 3 weeks now... i rather draw lines in Sketchup... and it doesn't have text auto correct, no reference function...i hope they can combine InDesign and Illustrator in the future lol they are really should b in one program

Fuck illustrator so hard... I used to use Macromedia's Freehand which was the one thing Illustrator will never be: straight forward.
