After reading "The Masked Empire" I had to side with Gaspard.
Unlike Celene, he does not betray his allies, and never forgets his friends. He may not be to ethically all that great, but he is the best leader for Orlais as a whole.

He ends up making peace with Ferelden. Without sacrificing Orlais strength, as Celene would have.

Seems Cassandra is the only one with an brain here. Everyone disapproves for you to eliminate the weak ruler who is more interested in playing the game and throwing parties rather then actually ruling.

This is the way I end. It just felt right. I liked Celene, but she's so puffed up and gives the Inquisition a cold shoulder. It's so annoying. Gaspard is a bro and has your back.

In the ending of the game. Celene actually forgets and shuns the Inquisition. Gaspard, true to his word, supports the Inquisition helps them

I did this too. Gaspard's history as a soldier made him the natural leader in the fight against Corypheus.
Also Orlais clearly needed strong leadership. And who else to provide that than a soldier?
It was time to bring some authority to Orlais in a time of crisis.

Of the 3 possible heads of state, Grand Duke Gaspard is the one who extended the invitation to the Inquisition. The Mage Rebellion (lead by Grand Enchanter Fiona) also extends same-such Allainces. The only faction who lacks such foresight all but warrant getting removed from Play, (The Wardens, Templars and Qunari in Trespasser)
