Показать описание
This is an informational overview video on Amoxicillin with Clavulanic acid. It is also known under the brandname; "Augmentin". It is available as a powder for oral suspension, a tablet and as an injection.

When to use it?
Augmentin is a wide-spectrum antibiotic. Which means it can be used to treat thousands different types of bacteria. Therefore Augmentin is mostly used to treat infections caused by unknown microorganisms, such as:
An upper respiratory tract infection (like a sinusitis)
An lower respiratory tract infection (pneumonia)
An urogenital tract infection (Chlamydia)
An gastrointestinal infection (H. pylori bacteria that can cause stomach ulcers);
Infections in your bones (e.g., osteomyelitis, prosthetic joint infections);
And lastly severe skin and soft tissue infections.

How to use it?
Swallow it tablet whole, with a glass of water. Do not chew on it or crush it. Or resolve the powder in half a glass of water and drink it.
Always take it at fixed times: preferably in the morning and in the evening. This lowers your chances on forgetting a dose. Furthermore, do not interrupt or stop the treatment and finish it completely.

What is the correct dosage?
It is important to always follow the precise prescription your doctor gave you.
Dose for adults and children 40kg:
500/125 mg every 8 hours
875/125 mg every 12 hours

In serious infections
1000/125 mg every 8 hours

Did you forget to take a dose? And does it take less than 4 hours till your next dose? Than skip the dose you missed and take the forgotten dose at the end of your treatment.

What are the side-effects?
(10%): diarrhea.
(1-10%): nausea, vomiting, candidiasis.
(0.1-1%): Dizziness, headache, rash, itching, dyspepsia.

Safety:
You can combine Augmentin with any type of food and even with alcohol.
Don’t use amoxicillin if you are hypersensitivity to Penicillin or Cefalosporin.

Pregnancy and Lactation:
You can safely use Augmentin if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
However, you should stop with breastfeeding, if you are using Augmentin and you child gets diarrhea, candidiasis and / or a skin rash.

I've only ever been on antibiotics twice in my adult life, and it's always been this stuff. It works wonders, never had issues, but yes, def take food with it. Even if just a slice of bread or something. Food will help with upset stomach

It can also be used for badly infected teeth in patients who have taken *alot* of amoxicillin over the course of several years…while resistance in individuals is rare (it’s largely a population/world concern for future generstions) when someone has repeated recurring infections even when the mouth is kept cleaner than clean, you end up getting alot of amoxicillin if you don’t have an allergy..after extractions of infected teeth, amoxicillin…abcesses, amoxicillin…sometimes some dentists will use clindamycin, but considering many of us respond to amoxicillin so well *at first*…alot of us end up taking gobs of it.

Which brings me to my point. Taking it so regularly can cause a sort of resistance..it isn’t that the medication doesn’t work at all anymore, it’s that it doesn’t work as well…you’ll start noticing that an infection that would’ve previously been kicked with a 3 day course, now takes a full week or even longer, or higher/more frequent dosing. This can be mitigated to an extent by alternating with other antibiotics commonly used in dentistry like clindamycin…but augmentin is a great choice for those who have built a mild resistance to amoxicillin on it’s own, that said, the side effects are also more noticeable.

I was given this & started today. I see ba dentist on July 31st.. I was in the hospital for a sickle cell crisis so its a precaution I guess. I'll be glad once I have oral surgery. I am taking the 875/125 mg for every 12 hours for 10 days.

I def will not drive. I had no idea about that! Thanks!

Got this prescribed for a boil. The first pill made the boil shrink about a "1/4" from it's original sizes. It was in-between 1/2 and 3/4 the size of a golf ball.

In March of this year I had an issue with my Appendix (acute Appendicitis) and was treated with the Hospital Antibiotics. They too found out I had some bacteria on my right lung and at the same time a Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver as well when they did a CT scan to find why I had a fever and fast heart palpitations(which they found my Appendix infection).
So the doctors gave me a total of 10 day treatment of this Amoxicillin with this Acid (aka Augmentin) every 12 hours, discounting 2 days of whatever Antibiotic they gave me at the hospital, so for the next 8 days I was taking this stuff. By the 4th day I had all these bad and discomfort symptoms all over my body that I never had in my life; like my intestines and liver felt bloated inside (although no pain, no bleeding, no blood in my rear-end area, nor bloody urine, no jaundice, no swollen ankles to this day). But i do get palpitations from time to time around my liver area/ or upper right torso area--No pain just weird throbbing sensation. T I A

I know that the extended-release has less clavulanate per tab, but it is still BID dosing. I thought choosing an extended-release version of a medication simply provided you with the benefit of improved compliance with patients because they can take it once daily instead of BID like an immediate release. I understand the extended-release portion of the medication, but since it is still BID, is there any reason to choose it over immediate release. I know you get a higher dose of amoxicillin, is there a benefit to having decreased clavulanate per dose? Sorry, I hope that makes sense. Thank you for the detailed video, it was very helpful.

I was prescribed this medication for a sinus infection. But I’m scared to take it due to reviews I seen that it increases anxiety and panic attacks?
