I was so pissed when they cancelled this series. Years later it all makes sense to end it when they did because it wouldn't have the impact and awesomeness that it does. This was a classic series. It was basically a 13 hour exceptional movie. I'll be watching it again and again but I too will wish it could've continued. The acting, cast and story were unique and amazing. Bravo.

To this very day, this show is still amongst the ones I would have hoped to give a chance to beyond sheer ratings. There was a lot of talent here and a decent storyline ahead, but at the same time may have been one of the better "inadvertent mini-series" I had seen at this time in my life (that is one that was supposed to be a longer storyline, but managed to reach some type of conclusion after being cut too short by studio execs).

At the same time, this was also my introduction to Andre Braugher, an actor I've come to love over both his previous and subsequent various roles. Perhaps I'm feeling a bit reflective upon hearing news of his untimely passing, however I am glad to have been introduced to an actor of his caliber through a show that has largely been forgotten and relegated to the dust bin. Without this random, half season show that premiered over a decade ago, I may have never learned or known of his other roles including that of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and others. May he rest in peace and I give my condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.

It will forever be a tragedy and a mistake that this series was cancelled. And I guarantee you, despite ABC claiming otherwise, ratings were not the real reason it was cancelled ("Last Resort" was getting 5.6 million viewers on average weeks after its debut). Similar to how CBS' Jericho was cancelled only for the fans to tell Les "I Can't Keep My Hands to Myself And I'm A Terrible Human Being" Moonves be humiliated for having to bring it back for a short second season to wrap it up (thank god he's gone, the man was truly a dinosaur). I guarantee you had this show premiered under different political landscapes it wouldn't have been canned. And you can tell from watching the series that the production crew had plans of where to go with this - with the one episode where they were finding natural resources on the island implying that the island could become its own independent country with its own trade export to sustain itself.

...I only hope that a few years from now someone dusts this off and revisits it and it's even half as good as it was originally. Knowing dinosaur media... they won't. And if they do they'll find a way to ruin it. It's because of shows like this getting cancelled one season in while other god-awful shows continued (like Bones... why on earth did Bones stay on the air as long as it did). Limitless (the TV series), Almost Human (Firefly 2.0, basically). And the new shows I occasionally see advertised are definitely not making me regret not watching TV series anymore or feel like I'm missing out.

I am surprised this show was even greenlit. It is basically a show about a sub captain that refuses to launch nuclear missiles against another country, fires against his own, takes a stand against the military complex of USA, and ultimately we get a conclusion where the US president gets shot - not as the good guy, but as the bad guy who deserves it. The US cinema always paints the government as bad guys, but this one takes the crown. I'm surprised it was approved and aired. In any other country this movie would have been destroyed and people arrested.
I enjoyed every minute of it, even tho some parts were awfully cut down in length and made no sense. It shows just how stubborn and unapologetic the US government and army can be when dealing with war matters and politics. I wish there was more of the US territory conspiracy showed involving the agencies trying to cover up the mess and more actual combat with the submarine where the crew could show their teeth when backed against the wall by the surrounding fleets. A really great show that is really cut down in lenght.

The Command Master Chief (CoB) was completely unrealistic. Becoming CoB of a front line Nuc sub means he's got Navy war college and at minimum a BS in something job related. He would be standing with the Captain knowing the orders were bad, and then when they shot at the boat, then when NAVCOM refused to send the orders properly would have been the last straw. He would have been fully behind his Captain and kept the crew in line. Orders like this can only mean a coup in the highest levels of government. What is also unrealistic is that any other Sub Captain would follow those orders to fire nucs at a country without realistic reasons. Our command structure aboard ships are far better than what is presented in this series. Plus, the Seal would have shot those island thugs instead of letting them walk away. We control whatever situation we are put in, and an obvious threat screams kill me. So, that too was unrealistic...sorry to ruin it for y'all, but my Navys reputation is being pissed on here.

Very shoddy research work in depicting Pakistani military as well as the Urdu language. I am a Pakistani and couldn't understand a word those characters were saying.
