Synopsis:
PROFILE follows an undercover British journalist in her quest to bait and expose a terrorist recruiter through social media, while trying not to be sucked in by her recruiter and lured into becoming a militant extremist herself. The unconventional thriller plays out entirely on a computer screen in the Screenlife format, pioneered by Bekmambetov.

Great review. I liked Profile for the first... hour and fifteen minutes? Then I feel like the writer(s) kind of scrambled to figure out how to end it— and I’m never a fan of the “text across the screen” endings, even though this format does KIND of make it easy to forgive. Aside from the pacing issues, the predictable fake-out death scene, and the very ending, I think this was solid though. I’d recommend anyone give it a watch. Thanks for taking the time to review it— doesn’t seem like this got a ton of mainstream attention.

I really enjoyed "Searching!" I didn't believe that format could necessarily work, but I was invested the entire time. It's unfortunate that this film didn't hit the same way.

I completely agree, I wasn't really convinced by Amy and Bilel's relationship. I think the film would have been so powerful if it successfully seduced the audience along with Amy, but I can see how this would have been incredibly hard to do. It's such an interesting concept with so much to unpack, maybe it would have been better off as a limited series on Netflix or something? Anyway, love this review!

Nice review but I disagree with you about the ending. I thought the decision Amy was faced with at the end (regarding publishing the story) was profound. Were you hoping for or expecting an ending with a “bang” (i.e., physical action/violence)?

Saw this tonight and I’m in line with you. They should’ve cut a couple scenes to make it shorter. It really drags at the end of the 2nd act.

Also the ending was trash! Like who was that banging on the door when she was at the hotel in Amsterdam? Then how did they arrest dude if he lived in Syria??
