- - About Jordan Peterson - -
Jordan B. Peterson (born 12 June 1962) is a Canadian professor of psychology, clinical psychologist, YouTube personality, and author. He began to receive widespread attention in the late 2010s for his views on cultural and political issues, often described as conservative.

Born and raised in Alberta, Peterson obtained bachelor's degrees in political science and psychology from the University of Alberta and a PhD in clinical psychology from McGill University. After teaching and research at Harvard University, he returned to Canada in 1998 to permanently join the faculty of psychology at the University of Toronto. In 1999, he published his first book, Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief, which became the basis for many of his subsequent lectures. The book combined information from psychology, mythology, religion, literature, philosophy, and neuroscience to analyze systems of belief and meaning.

My primary discipline was violin. 3 hours a day. Lessons, driving, college, teaching. I eventually founded a community orchestra and consider that my greatest musical accomplishment. I “lost it all” so to speak when my daughter was diagnosed with autism and I became a stay-at-home mom. Today I’m using the skills I learned as a violinist to navigate and thrive in my new environment. My daughter has sensory processing issues and I can’t currently play violin, so I’ve turned to visual arts and have started again. What Dr. Peterson is saying here is 100% true.

My problem is that I pick all things. In my brain, everything is important and everything needs to get done now. In the end, nothing gets completed and I'm left feeling like a sinking ship.

For clarity Dr Peterson isn't trying to say you need to follow his steps to become a millionaire or win awards in whatever your chosen career in life is. He's saying that in order to not be a failure, forced to live in your mother's basement and never have a relationship or children, one needs to focus themselves towards an achievable goal, successfully achieve that goal to the best of your abilities then continue moving forward by leveraging the skills you've learned from achieving that goal into achieving goals that are broader and more complex.

I'm finding it hard to accept the part where he says "guess"

Can't there be a better way to find that one thing by maybe looking at the many facets of your life and narrowing it down to something you can really do? rather than just guessing.

Can anyone help me understand it better?

I doubt that would work for some people. I can't focus the whole time. And I need to otherwise my whole focus is gone. I need to fully focus and leave the world around me to not stop with focusing. And it is annoying when people are trying to pull me out of the focus. I can't multitask due to it. And when I don't focus I get higher chance of getting hit out of impulsivity. My life is 80% impulse and 15% praying that I'll survive or that I didn't fuck up and 5% of focus. And till now the impulsive behavior won't go away as I don't know how to manage this behavior on my own. I can't rely on focus. And sometimes due to sensitivity I can't focus when it's loud so it's not easy for me. I just hope and pray that stuff goes my way

So Jordan how can I grow in my head to be more focused and lesser sensitive in sensitivity?
