Should turn the pie upside down, never use a knife, a spoon and fork is the traditional weaponry 😅

I'm not a Londoner (a Scouser, actually) but I live in the South West and make trips to the Capital whenever I can. Absolutely love pie, mash, liquor and eels. F Cooke and Sons was my favorite up to on getting to as many shops as possible in the future.
Good video.

Great video Gary, I've been using Arments for over 50 years, liquor all day long for me, we love the dry pies, no gravy for me, in or over the pies! 😮 We use Manzies when Arments are shut.

Can't explain why, but absolutely love these pie and mash shop videos! - maybe to do with them clearly being a part of the local history? - Weirdest part is, I don't even like potato!! 🤣Pies look incredible and would love to try the liquor though!!

As an experienced Pie and Mash- video binge watcher I appreciate your work Gary! When it comes to weird hobbies/interests I have to admit this is definetely unusual even in my standards, but every once in a while when I cook something for myself and it's time to eat I just type Pie and Mash and eat remotely with Londoners. I am from Finland, and I've never had the chance to taste these bad boys myself. Next time when I visit UK I will surely check the big three, F.Cooke, M.Manze and Arments. Peace and love👍

Sadly our Manze's pie and mash shop closed down in Walthamstow because there were so few genuine East Enders left to enjoy one of my favourite meals. Diversity has it's down side.

Gary, a few home truths about London Pie'n'mash - it all depends which side of the river you were born.
South Londoners and Millwall supporters ( includes our family) will only eat at Manzies as it's the best. The 'dirty' side of the water (east end), they simply can't cook it..! Hope this helps, love the reviews, Kevin and Deborah.

The used to be a proper old school pie and mash shop in peckham park road. Went there for years until it shut down. Sometimes go to manzes because their shops have a good old pie & mash shop vibe, but the best is definitely arments

You are making me hungry at 10am watching this! 😂
Being a Bermondsey lad of mixed parents (Mum was Arments and Dad Manzes). I always prefered Arments as I thought the pies were a smidge larger and the liquor better. Having accompanied Dad to Manzes for some time, I recently visited Arments and was disappointed. The meat in the pie was under done and dry, the liquor meh. I am now throughly M.Manzes (TBR primarily, but Peckham when there).
PS - Manzes make their own counter chili vinegar on the premises, call on a quiet spell and you will see one of the girls refilling with a mix with the birds-eye chilies. There's also a triple spicy scotch bonnet beneath the counter for the daring!

Very good reviews of both establishments, not too much to choose between the two on looks alone. I do like good pie and mash and both of these places seem worthy of a visit.

Great and honest review as ever Gary.

I use to love Pie and Mash at Watney Street Shadwell East London. However went to one at Chrisp Street in Poplar recently and that was pretty good.

In my own pretty comprehensive experience I've always found that North of the River & to the East tend to have more gravy in the Pies !
South of the River you get less gravy in the Pies !
I'm a South London Boy, so brought up on the Dryer Pie & that's my preference !
But as a West Ham fan I've had many a North of the Thames Pie & working on that side !
I have a preference for the South, but also enjoyed many a P&M over the water ! 🤗 😋😇

Thanks for the brilliant review Gary, I'm coming to London in February, arriving at St Pancras from Nottingham, having Pie and Mash is on my bucket list. I've had to do some research to find a Pie and Mash shop not too far out from St Pancras / Kings cross, which happened to be the Manse shop you reviewed, nearest underground Borough, it took a bit of detective work to finearest underground. On your London reviews could you give the nearest underground to the venue for out of town visitors. Keep up the good work.
