I still can't believe that this channel is now monetised, thank you all so much (I pray to the copyright gods for this video to fall under fair use).

This video is introducing my first ever series, the War of 1812, quite possibly the most comical display of Anglo-American shenanigans in history.

I hope you all enjoy the new crispy audio.

The Russian Navy voyage to Japan saga is the best video on this channel and quite humorous.

When I first learned about the War of 1812 in elementary school my teacher started with "At the time the war was seen as a war to protect independences, but it was pointless and the timing was all wrong."
So not all of us Americans are completely lost😁

As an American, I believe this war mattered, but only culturally and only to Americans. As you said, we didn't win no matter how much Jackson kicked ass, but we also didn't lose outright. When fighting a war that basically amounted to a small child fighting a pack of pit bulls, the fact we survived is nothing to be ashamed of. We were able to prove to ourselves that we could keep our freedom even when we made the worst decisions imaginable.

As a Florida man, war of 1812 will aways be that war when the congress got bored and decided to act like a wolverine against the British bear

i'm definitely enjoying your more casual and laidback approach to recounting history, and as a fellow aussie too, definitely enjoying the occasional cuss too 😂

for me, Asian history is my favourite to hear about so if you're ever getting a bit dry on European topics, please give us Oriental gentleman some time in the spotlight.

cheers and hope your channel picks up even more in the coming months!

I appreciate the Yes Prime Minister Joke that Britains Nuclear Arsenal isn't to deal with the Soviets, it's to deal with the French as the ultimate enemy.

Very excellent video! Unbiased, unprejudiced and completely fair to both sides. Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.

Here's hoping that you cover the Battle of Baltimore and the Battle of Plattsburgh as soon as you get the chance.

P.S. I do believe that the most powerful naval force in all of recorded history was the United States Navy by August 15th, 1945. Fielding nearly 7, 000 warships and auxiliary vessels (a number that the Royal Navy never got even remotely close to matching even at the absolute zenith of its power in either 1815 or even 1918), possessing more warships and naval firepower than the entire world combined did and even comprising 75% of all overall naval tonnage on the planet, the United States Navy was (and still is) the single most dominant naval armada of all time bar none.

It would be very interesting to hear your thoughts on the matter. Might even make for a good video, someday.

So excited to be here at the start of an amazing channel! I've seen all your videos. I'd love to see a series about Edward I, II and III. Especially Edward II, plenty of memes for him. I'm into all eras and locations of history. Making a video on the Bronze Age Sea People's would be good. King Henry III is good...although he could be part of Edward I video. There's the entire story of the American expedition to Russia during the Russian Revolution. I'm just trying to find things that may be funny. One final recommendation is keeping true to yourself.

I'm hoping you cover the Battle of Lake Erie in this series.

My understanding of the War of 1812 is that it actually was a victory for the US, just not in the way most people understand it. As following the Battle of New Orleans, the US had cemented its claims to the Louisiana Territory. We had purchased it from France of course, but Britain was not bound to recognize our claims to it and it's Canadian territory bordered on it. Had the Brits completely kicked our butts during that war we very likely would have found them in possession of at least part of that territory.

As a brit I can safely say Tchaikovsky dropped some solid beats in 1812 I think the guy would have gone platinum if his work wasn't overshadowed by the america.

You forgot to include that British forts in the western frontier were arming the warring first nation's people on the American territorial borders was also a reason for war. And you skipped the British taking some pretty bad defeats in lower Canadia early in 1813 with the local capital of york being put to the torch. Not to mention the multiple failed sieges of American forts and to aid their native allies in the western theater of the war.

One big thing you forgot to mention here is that, as a result of this war, and the British withdrawing their support for the American Indian resistance, America got to actually control much of modern day great lakes states and not just on paper. I think for this reason the war was a victory for both colonies that would become Canada obivously, since they got to survive, America since it got out with basically getting the Brits to stop arming the native resistance and allowed defacto control of much of the midwest and remaining appalachian native groups. If anybody is the loser in this war, it's the red sticks and other anti american tribes/factions within tribee, and ofc the big man Tecumseh.
