Why do I never recommend hiking PR1 at sunrise?

I strongly advise against doing this hike at sunrise, especially during the peak season. These shots were taken at one of the most picturesque viewpoints on the island. Would you like to get there all by yourselves?

💡 My advice is to come closer to sunset 🌅

👉🏼 If you want to hike one way on the PR1 trail, include PR1.2, and catch the sunset at Pico Ruivo, then start from Pico do Arieiro 3 hours before sunset. But arrange for a transfer back in advance 🚕

🔛 If you want to do the hike both ways, I recommend starting it 6 hours before sunset to be able to return to Pico do Arieiro before twilight.
