Coulson Aviation’s Hawaii Mars is preparing for its final flight later this summer!

On July 9, the iconic aircraft completed a taxi around Sproat Lake in Port Alberni, B.C.

The historic aircraft, which served in B.C. firefighting missions for decades after its military retirement in the late 1950s, will be preserved at the British Columbia Aviation Museum, where it will be the centrepiece of a wildfire aviation exhibit, allowing visitors to get up close and personal with the aircraft.

People always ask why they are red and white, it's partly because MacMillan Bloedel (at the time the west's largest forest company)had the biggest stake in Forest Industries Flying Tankers, i remember being out on sproat lake in the 1970s and seeing the familiar M&B logo on the aircraft
