This video shows the main differences between the simply supported beam and fixed beam. When the beam is supported by hinge and roller support on either end, this beam is called as simply supported beam and when both ends of beam are supported by fixed ends, then this beam is known as fixed beam. The deflection is very small in case of fixed beam as comparison to that of simply supported beam. The simply supported beam has only positive bending moment while fixed beam has positive and negative bending moment.
