Ortakoy is also another popular nightlife and entertainment centers of Istanbul with its variety of great cafes, bars, pubs, restaurants, shops, boutiques, baked potato & souvenir shops.
Ortaköy was a cosmopolitan area during the Ottoman era and the first decades of the Turkish Republic, with communities of Turks, Greeks, Armenians and Jews.
Today the neighbourhood still hosts many different religious (Muslim, Jewish, Orthodox, and other Christian) structures. Ortaköy is also a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, with its art galleries, night clubs, cafés, bars, and restaurants
ORTAKÖY MOSQUE
Clearly, the most iconic landmark of the area is the Ortaköy Mosque. From an architectural point of view, the mosque is gorgeous. But what makes it truly unique is its position, right there at the waterfront.
The Neo-Baroque style Ortaköy Mosque is a beautifully ornate structure, right on the jetty of Ortaköy, bordering the waters of the Bosphorus, and thus highly visible from the passing boats.
KUMPİR (Baked Potato)
Apart from the mosque, Ortaköy is also famous for being the best place to try kumpir in Istanbul. Kumpir, which is jacket potato the Turkish way, is Istanbul street food at its best. You will be surprised by how many food stalls in Ortaköy serve just that. Don’t miss it!
Furthermore, Ortaköy is home to some of the city’s universities and this adds to the area’s vibrant ambiance.
Apart from beautiful cafés with a Bosphorus view, such as the Ortaköy Kahvesi, pubs and restaurants near the ferry port, Ortaköy also has some of Istanbul's best seashore night clubs.
