Spiritual vitality is the most important reason for believers to learn the original languages. For ne in particular, it is also very important to be able to do research and study of the Biblical texts as independently as I possibly can. Both were key reasons why I learned Biblical Hebrew.

Related to reason #2 (clarity to understand detail) - Advanced tools use terms and cite examples in the original text that can only be understood by having an understanding of Biblical languages.
Related to reason #3 (less dependence on the tools) - A better understanding of the original text can help with evaluating these tools, and force us to re-examine our own perceptions.

Reason (1) is by far the most important reason why I want to be able to masterfully read for myself in the actual biblical languages.
Actually understanding what the author was saying, as led by the Holy Spirit, for me, leads to all of the other benefits for knowing Greek.

I believe knowing what the author has said (1) and the nuances (2) leads to my own personal growth (6), and a confidence (4) that would lead to less dependence on others (3). Efficiency (5), although greatly appreciated, would be at the bottom of my personal concerns.

Another good video Darryl but could I ask you to consider whether you need the background elevator music? As someone with hearing loss I find it intrusive and I think it distracts from, and jars with, the seriousness of what you are saying which I really want to hear!

Darryl, I find all of the reasons compelling, but for me especially it is the reduced dependence on tools and also on translations. With so many translations now available, it is difficult to know which one to go by in trying to understand a passage of scripture. Knowing Greek ( and Hebrew ) allows one to evaluate the translations yourself. I'm not sure we can ever completely become independent of all tools because even lexical aids depend on centuries of study and interpretation. Only a first century greek speaker could be totally independent of all helps.
By the way, I agree with the comment from Judith that the background music is distracting from your speaking.

I disagree with the "spiritual vitality" argument. It seems to me that it can be fully achieved by reading a translation. But I really enjoyed all the rest, great video! How do you record your videos? Do you read the script that is next to your camera or you just say what comes to your head?

Hi Daryl, these are indeed great reasons for learning to read biblical Greek! Ultimately, if we want to know Jesus as much as is possible, we should learn the original texts of Scripture. This is why I think that learning biblical Greek should not just be for those who are in full time paid minsitry, but for any Christian. Sadly, most people do not have the resources or the time if they're working full time in other jobs.
In your experience, what is the feasibility for a working adult to master the New Testament Greek, in terms of time and resources? If you think that this task is completely achievable, what would you suggest to those people to self-learn biblical Greek (as working adults will probably not have the opportunity to go to seminary to learn Greek from live teaching)? Would love to hear more from you on this! :)
