The best 35mm SLR film camera to use if you want to learn film photography and are a complete beginner. My opinion on what cameras you should look at, and what cameras you should avoid!

Somewhere between 2021 and 22 when I started coming back to film photography I bought my first and, so far, only SLR: the Nikon FM10. I can't recommend it enough! There has been a bit of a learning curve but it's been great. It doesn't need batteries, it teaches me about sunny16 and composition, it's a fairly recent model, and I know I can get different lenses down the line if I need to.
Thanks for the video! I might look into a Rebel or some similar model soon.

I really like your videos! I just stumbled upon your channel.
I'm really new to film photography. I bought a Minolta 505si super for just below 11 USD. It is a really good camera. It lets you change up all the settings (I don't understand them fully yet), but if you are unsure how to set it up correctly it does everything for you. And guess what: I got for less than a buck a black and white Orwo film which expired in September 1968. I can currently shooting that. I have two rolls of film that are to be developed.

Interesting video and perspective. I had bought a Pentax K1000 back in 1980 while I was in high school. I took a photography class my senior year of college in 1987. The professor advised his students to buy a K1000 since it's all manual and controllable for artistic photography. My only complaint is that I think the light metering could be better. However, the camera did well for me until I went digital.

My daughter's boyfriend is getting into film and wants something manual that he can control focus, exposure time, appature, etc. Re-enter the K1000.

However, I wish that I would have watched this sooner since I might have considered this for him.

Well you're wrong, but you aren't wrong. I would not recommend it as a first film camera, but I absolutely would recommend it as a first SLR. I'm biased as I only started using digital cameras as an adult after my AE-1P was stolen. For anyone who has already learned how to use a digital SLR, the the AE-1P is a perfect introduction to film. It's easy to use, and allows the photographer who is used to fully automatic exposure to gradually learn how to shoot film entirely manually.
