Leap motion is nice at a desk, but try using it on your couch. So kinect is still awesome and I am sure the next version will add even more responsiveness, which is always great.

Totally. Microsoft licensed the main tech but have clearly taken it further than anyone else. Also, in order to productize it they had to make it affordable which means not quite as awesome as it could have been for say $500.

You are missing the fact that the Kinect is a completely different device than the leap, the leap is only used on short range, in front of a screen, the Kinect is focussed on a distance of roughly 0.5 meter up to 4-8 meter. That's like seeing a bike can stear in a way smaller space than a car... irrelephant

Nothing you said made sense. Microsoft were out of the gate first, hell the Leap isn't even out yet. Tons of people develop for Kinect already, and it has been a pretty big success both on consoles and PC.

To be fair, this is just what's being shown publicly, they probably have much more advanced tech in R&D labs being developed

Leap motion doesn't only have one objective. They want it to be utilized for keeping hospitals sterile. As well, "it can track your individual finger movements to 1/100th of a millimeter." Sorry for interjection, I just... go to the Leap Motion website, you'll get excited.

But they didn't keep it closed. They actually made it easier for devs to make programs for Kinect, and the hardware and SDK was released specifically for PCs more than 8 months before Windows 8 came out. You really are way off the mark. You couldn't even use Leap to do what's going on in this video because it has such a small area that it picks up.
