something i've noticed about this show is that a lot of the characters problems and pain are routed at their parents, you see it with maddy and her parents relationship, nate and his father, rue and her father, cassie and her father, mckay and his father and even a bit with jules and her mother. i think it shows just how much a child's parents can shape the way they turn out to be.
