Willie Nelson San Antonio Rose Live Perfomance 1965
Bob Wills San Antonio Rose Lyrics
Deep within my heart lies a melody
A song of old San Antone
Where in dreams I live with a memory
Beneath the stars all alone
It was there I found beside the Alamo
Enchantment strange as the blue, up above
A moonlit path that only she would know
Still hears my broken song of love
Moon in all your splendor knows only my heart
Call back my Rose, Rose of San Antone
Lips so sweet and tender like petals fallin' apart
Speak once again of my love, my own
Broken song, empty words I know
Still live in my heart all alone
For that moonlit pass by the Alamo
And Rose, my Rose of San Antone

It amazes me how Willie can sing so far of the meter of the song but come right back so perfectly! What a pro

This song is actually called "New San Antonio Rose". The original written in 1938 as an instrumental by Bob Wills. It became the signature song of Bob Wills & The Texas Playboys. In 1940 a couple of The Playboys added lyrics. They recorded it with Wills long time vocalist Tommy Duncan later in 1940.

The first time I was in San Antonio the first woman I seen was named Rose. She was working the fuel desk at a truck stop there.

I actually remember when Willie looked like this! But I never heard him sing jazz style back then.

Is that what he looked like when I was 15? He had a powerful voice - he can bend a phrase, right nicely.

this song was played faster to work it into a time slot for the show.

Wavy red hair, lots of it but it’s short. Prefer Willie braids!

He's singing country in a jazz style.
Not sure if that works.
