There are not many large aircraft manufacturers that have survived alongside the Boeing and Airbus duopoly. Over the years, most have moved aside or been acquired.

Embraer stands out as one of the largest independent manufacturers today, offering a range of smaller private and regional commercial jets. With a recent failed merger with Boeing, it looks set to maintain its independence.

We explore its past, present, and future.

As a ramp agent I can say the 175 is incredibly easy to service and it’s obvious a lot of care was put in to make our jobs easier and safer, love Embraer

I flew on an E175 just 3 weeks ago and it was one of the best flights I've ever had. It is an amazing aircraft

As an 11 year former airline employee, I've had an opportunity to fly on many different types of aircraft around the world and domestically. It's clear to me that Embraer fills a valuable space in the regional airline market. They also provide valuable competition between Boeing & Air Bus. Competition is keen so let's hope they can continue.

Worked as mechanic for Continental Express (ExpressJet), we were the launch customer for the 145 and 135. We had ERs, later converted to EP, LRs and XRs. Absolutely loved that plane. When SkyWest bought the company and merged us with ASA we inherited the CRJs. The CRJs required twice the maintenance as the ERJ. Oh the days of working Jungle jets and snow birds.

Aside from their products, I love that Embraer gives an image that Brazilians are also very competent in engineering.

I've flown on Embraer's E175 a few times, the first time being under awful weather conditions. The E175 held its own better than the big leagues as far as I am concerned. What surprised me was the general quietness and smoothness of the aircraft, legroom was even better than some larger aircraft, all and all every flight was definitely most enjoyable. I therefore hope to see Embraer grow from strength to strength and to keep designing and manufacturing truly beautiful and such good quality airplanes.

Embraer is a fantastic company. Its engineering base is incredible. Composed by young and talented engineers. Of course, Embraer is loved by Brazilians so it attracts the most talented people.

The company is efficient and competent. The recent projects such as the C-390 millennium and the E2 family are the best products in the market and were completed on budget and on schedule. Meanwhile, any other manufacturer struggles to finish their projects.

Just so you know, the E2 is 10% more fuel efficient than the A220. This is just astonishing combined with the long history Embraer has of reliability, easy and cheap maintenance.

Every aircraft manufacturer will suffer due to the pandemic. But Embraer, Boeing and Airbus will not go bankrupt. They are strategic companies to their governments.

I’ve had the privilege of flying as a passenger on 4 Embraer types with 6 carriers (145, 175, 190 and 195.) In each case the passenger experience was better than any Airbus and in a higher league than Boeing offer. More personal space, wider, more comfortable seats and only two abreast (single seats portside in a 145.) Great aeroplanes.

EMB aircraft are incredible. The exception being the Bandeirantes which rattled like a baby toy. All others excellent. Comfortable and quiet. Clever of them to launch a mid sized military cargo jet. Big market. Good to see smaller companies being successful. They will also be heavily involved in producing the new Saab Gripen.

18 years working in that amazing company, I am so proud to make part of this.

Embraer is also going to produce the SAAB fighter Gripen under license for the brazilian air force and possibly other customers.
3 KC-390 Millenium military freighter have been delivered to the brazilian force.

I flew on Virgin Australia's Embraer E190. Very comfortable compared to an Airbus A320 and I was surprised that it wasn't a more successful aircraft.

When I lived in Nuremberg, Germany, Lufthansa flew ERJ directly between Nuremberg and large cities in Europe without transferring at Frankfurt or Munich hub aeroports. What a time saver for me, and I always had positive experience when flying with ERJ. Fewer seats mean quicker boarding and disembarking time. I also flew the E175 with Lufthansa, too, and loved it, too. I am glad to see the Boeing-Embraer merge failed because Boeing has not been doing well in the last fifteen years, starting with B787. B747-8 was a rare exception in the long string of problems.

Couple years ago I was flying out of Vancouver on an Embraer, seated next to a nervous flyer, and it was (unusual for YVR) snowy. De-icing was taking a while and I leaned over to comfort the nervous seatmate. "These planes are built in Brazil, they know all about snow and ice." Yes, I'm a bastard.

If Boeing were to acquire Embraer, the quality Embraer's product would turn from good to horrendous.

I think Simple Flying Long Haul's videos are similar to Coby Explanes. The point is straightforward and easy to understand! Good Job!

Outstanding! As a native Brazilian (dual citizenship), I am proud of Embraer's aircraft. Since I have flown two of them (E-190) under the flag of American and Canadian airlines, I may certify that they are rather comfortable.

Twice I flew through KLM with an Embraer on the way between Amsterdam and Budapest, a very comfortable and quiet plane, completely approved.

I'm happy that Embraer didn't merge with Boeing that will keep this company growing and making more good planes. I fly once in a E195 and it was a good experience.

I recently finished reading the book written by Ozires Silva "Decolagem de um Sonho" (the take-off of the dream) about the Embraer creation. and it increased much more my admiration and pride for Embraer. in this video it looks as Embraer was created by the Brazilian government and only this. Actually, it was created in an environment of many doubts and distrust. It had proven all its value from the beginning until now with a lot of competence.
