The Jack Harlow Experiment Has Failed

-------

Anticipation can be dangerous. Although feelings of excitement may seem as though they’re inherently positive, the possibility of falling short of your expectations can mean that sometimes, they’re always going to eclipse reality.

In the music industry, the major record companies trade in leveraging your excitement into cold, hard cash. Orchestrated by marketing departments that have mastered the art of the rollout, they can whip the world into a frenzy about a forthcoming project. Other times, the artists take such complete ownership of their artistry that they do it themselves. For example, look at the unique rollout of Kendrick Lamar’s forthcoming Oklama and the palpable hype that surrounds it.

But while building hype is a necessary evil of the recording industry, the problems arise when the promise of something momentous goes unfulfilled and the listening public find disappointment where something special was meant to be.

And at the moment, this is a lesson that Jack Harlow is being forced to learn the hard way.

I wish Jack nothing but the best. He's a good dude. I believe he can comeback. Trial and error

The problem is he feels like hes made it. Throughout multiple new tracks he basically states that hes the "man" now and that hes made it. He needs to go back to that hunger stage

This man was massively overhyped. Jack made me appreciate Drake's talent and skill. And no, I'm not a Drake fan.

I see the Jack Harlow push the same way I saw the Macklemore push back in 2012-14. He did SNL, multiple magazine covers, was a XXL Freshman, and had major accolades with awards and the charts. The difference between Macklemore and Harlow, however, is that people still find him as a good artist who has potential and was able to keep their head up after hitting a slump with their fans. I think Jack Harlow’s gonna grow with his fans instead of his fans outgrowing him, but only time will tell.

I think a LOT of artists get overhyped. They aren't given a genuine chance because the expectations are so high. Its a blessing and curse to have so much hype that fast

Bro Jack Harlow is mad focused on becoming one of the best at what he does, he even stopped drinking and partying just to concentrate on his career. Mad respect to the guy.

I have faith in him making a comeback. It's the height of his career, music quality usually goes down. Backlash might have him cooking up something authentic again though

He needs to bring something fresh. He has potential. He has a personality that has people rooting for him. He needs to stop surrounding himself with all that luxury and start grinding in the studio. His previous album had so much soul, that organic vibe and that simplicity to it which instead of making it bad made it better which is missing here in the present album. It just sounds too mechanical, safe with all form and no substance. He has a personality and charm that's got people rooting for him nonetheless. So hope he brings his A game next time. Or he may have to start acting or something.

“What’s poppin is the best thing I’ve heard from him” is a stupid ass take. Truth be told I think most of the takes against Jack are coming from a place of defiance rather than actually solidified opinions. This album was for sure mid but it’s as if every person feels the need to put a spin on their opinion on him so the takes just become inflammatory and unreasonable.

You’re always going to have the dusty dudes who call it fuckboi music and find their reason.
You’re always going to have the people who just started hearing from him so think he’s an industry plant.
And you’re always going to have the white rapper take because the white audience supports tf out of their 1-5 white rappers and we’re all tired of seeing it.

He’s not done with good music in my opinion just think the stardom messed up his trajectory for this album.

I have nothing against the guy, but he's proof that being a marketable asset is more important than having actual talent these days

*Jack is an enigma.*

His music is like white noise ( no pun intended lol), loud and flashy enough to occasionally perk up your ear, but so droning and uninteresting that you can cook dinner, clean the house and do your math homework while it buzzes in the background. I personally leave each JH song feeling unmoved, but occasionally entertained.

His likeability and his magnetic personality has been and continues to be his greatest strength as an artist. He is talented, no doubt, but it's becoming increasingly obvious that that's not what won him the favor with music industry. The push from the highest rungs of the industry and his social media clout created a double-edge sword, boosting his profile as an MC, even though he'd never be able to match the hype generated.

*CHTKMY* was him aping his idols and recycling the same ol' same ol', occasionally great, but mostly passable and sometimes unspeakably bad. However, he has alot of drive and optimism so I won't count him out..yet.

Confetti and Loose are some of his best projects, interesting how since he has been releasing albums that his quality has seemed to lessen.

What’s crazy about this is that I feel like seen himself as the next Mac Miller and couldn’t live up to it. Bro has the talent. He has the flow and personality, he needs to get serious and stop flexing and work.

Like this man has the potential to have an established and stable career, he just isn’t working seriously working like Eminem or Mac. He has a lot to work on.

I think he made everyone appreciate how good Drake is, and how enjoyable drake's music is, regardless if u not a fan .now people start to notice that, it's not just about the image.

Had to search this up, because i remember dude coming out of nowhere, hearing and seeing this guy in EVERYTHING. Jack was straight up an industry plant that just didn't grow. The push was CRAZY and rushed. All these big name artist they had cosign him, but homie just couldnt live up to the hype, because it wasn't organic.

The experiment hasn't failed, it's just a bump in the road. It's still largely successful, and this negative reception to this one project is being overblown as is common on the internet. It wasn't SO bad that we are gonna keep clowning on it for months to come, if it was then I would say the experiment failed.
