I don’t have enough fingers to count how many times this has happened to me, if you ever meet someone with autism, don’t treat them this way. Treat people with kindness no matter what.

So— to everyone asking what autism is
Ahem.

Autism is a spectrum disorder, it effects functioning and can effect how people behave, I specifically have Aspergers, which is part of the spectrum, it’s a social disorder that makes it hard to read social cues, and make it easier to feel overwhelmed
Ableism is a real problem that so many people experience, people who have disorders or disabilities often experience it, basically, it means people with autism are discriminated against, like how it is here, it makes life very hard for lots of people
I hope that made it easier to understand 🫶

Definition -
Autism : noun

a neurodevelopmental condition of variable severity with lifelong effects that can be recognized from early childhood, chiefly characterized by difficulties with social interaction and communication and by restricted or repetitive patterns of thought and behavior.
"students with autism want to be accepted like every other student"

Ableism: noun

discrimination in favor of able-bodied people.
"a person with a disability can struggle with ableism"

This video was made to spread awareness, and I’ve had a few people comment about how “it’s not a big deal” or to “keep it to myself” or even “there are kids on this app”, autism is not inappropriate. It is not scary. It is not bad. It’s not wrong. It’s what people have to live with. Nothing bad happens from spreading awareness. People have autism, exist. And there is nothing wrong with us.
Consider learning more about autism and checking out autism support organization (except autism speaks, it’s controversial and is not well liked by those of us in the community, you can learn more from ACTUAL autistic people on the r/Autism Reddit)

The fact people treat others with autism differently frustrates me

I am Autistic as well so I can relate. I even go to a school especially for Autistic people like myself. Most of my friends are Autistic like me. We look like neurotypical people but our brains work way differently. People who aren’t Autistic need to understand that Autistic people can take some time to process even the simplest of things and that they shouldn’t rush them or be disrespectful about it. We Autistic people may be very different to neurotypical people, but we are all equal. <3

This absolutely disgusting. Whether someone is autistic or not, being patient is already an automatic thing that comes with friendship. I have an autistic cousin and it doesn't bother me whatsoever, he's human as well. I'm so sorry this happened to you, and I wish the best of luck finding friends.

Just because someone has autism does not mean they aren't friend worthy. That is so stupid that people think that. You were brave enough to step up and tell someone something personal about you and the fact that they can't understand that you are a talented amazing person is a loss on them.

I also have autism and am an introvert, so it's hard to talk to people when I'm in public. This is something I can relate to.

Jeez dude. That sucks. You're still human! You should be valued just the same as anyone else. The world pisses me off. I fully support you.

My brother has autism and it’s difficult to see him go through his life, especially with what he has been through. It’s very sad to see how so many people misjudge or jump to conclusions without doing their own research first or even asking questions about mental disorders if they don’t have much or any knowledge about them. I’m so sorry to hear about your experiences, hopefully you’ll find people that won’t act like this & maybe even want to spend more time with you because of this (in a positive way). I hope you have a great day/night. Drinks some water & get a good nights rest. ❤

Im also Autistic, Once I was getting pretty stressed over something, so I decided to try to explain to my friend my triggers and basically tried to explain so our friendship wouldn't be difficult. Her Sister came and basically said stuff like "You think other people don't struggle?" and "what are you so stressed about?" it absolutely broke me. I think she might of misunderstood me but my friend took that as if I was trash talking her and then we started fighting.

I didn't write all that to make this abt myself, it's to let you know that you are not alone and when it comes to things like this, just know that there are people out there who understand your struggles. Autism isn't a thing that everyone has, that's why the people who do have it are unique ❤ oh and by the way, you don't need that "friend" ✌️

As someone who is a big sister to autistic and adhd siblings, the same things happens to them, they get told their weird, and get weird looks, because their « different «  which their not . Just because they have adhd or autism doesn’t mean they don’t have feelings, or their aliens from another planet . I wish everyone could understand that. But stay strong you got this ! 💕💐🎀
