Aoyama is one of the most luxurious areas in Tokyo. Located between Akasaka and Shibuya, Aoyama is an upscale shopping district for young people, more cutting edge than Akasaka and more exclusive than Shibuya.

Aoyama-dori is National Route 246 between Kita- and Minami-Aoyama. Aoyama-dori and Omotesando, which continues from Aoyama-dori, are home to some of Tokyo's best jazz clubs (including Blue Note), upscale shopping malls, bookstores, boutiques, and beautiful people.

Aoyama is a high culture district. Novelist Haruki Murakami calls Aoyama home, and many of Japan's leading writers have written their works here.
Aoyama is named after the Aoyama clan, which played a major role in the governance of Japan from the 16th century onward. The Aoyama clan was an important vassal of the Tokugawa Shogunate, serving as Edo magistrate, and was given a vast territory stretching from Akasaka to Shibuya. The Aoyama district is located between these two areas, especially where the huge Aoyama clan's mansion was located.

The Nezu Museum, located in Aoyama, Tokyo, was founded in 1940 by Kaichiro Nezu and houses his private collection. The museum houses approximately 7,400 pieces of pre-modern Japanese and East Asian art, including national treasures, important cultural properties, and important art objects. Special exhibitions are held throughout the year. The museum was closed for major renovations, but a new wing opened in 2009.

The museum's collection includes paintings, calligraphy, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, and archaeological materials. The Nezu Museum is also known for its refined Japanese garden and bamboo grove approach. The museum has a tea ceremony room, a store, and a coffee shop.

Located in Minami-Aoyama, the Nezu Museum is easily accessible from popular shopping and entertainment areas such as Shibuya and Omotesando.
