These kind of rivers and lakes will be the most vulnerable to climate change.

I'd heard of the Okovango Delta, but didn't know how it was formed. Fascinating, thank you.

Do a trip from Capetown north to Etosha, then Caprivi and finally the Okavango. From there R&R at Lost City..

I think there is another delta in Europe similar to the Okavango delta, where a river doesn't flow into the ocean or lake. Beautiful places.

Reminds me a little bit of the Canadian Rockies right next to the Prairies. You can see the Rockies from Calgary, Alberta. It is such a dramatic shift, I sometimes find it hard to believe I live so close to a mountain range just to the west.

Patagonia is such a gorgeous region of the world, would love to visit some day.

There actually is a connection called the Chobe River to the Zambezi River that goes the the ocean.

I wonder if the delta is relatively salty.

It’s not an island. It’s called the Okavango Delta. It’s a river that comes all the way from Angola, crosses the Namibian Kalahari desert and ends up creating an unique environment in Botswana where you have a flooded savanna that appears to divide that place into multiple little flooded islands. Due to these floods, lions have adopted new hunting techniques and that allow them to attack big preys instead of hunting the vulnerable ones. The floods obviously slows down the speech of buffaloes and lions have adopted to swimming better and being more stealthy than other African lions, having to roam around in those deep flooded areas also contributed to developing those impressive muscles. This diet of huge preys and food abundance is what made them get bigger than the rest of other lions.

Would not the Okavango Delta be a lake? Admittedly a shallow lake but still a lake.
