Just retook the BRC with my wife and this video reminded of a quote from the class:
Expert riders use expert judgement to avoid the need to use expert skills.

Thanks Kevin. I've been riding for over 40 years. You either teach me something new, or remind me of something I forgot.

I agree with you. I also constantly anticipate the moves drivers around me might make. Riding to me is not going down the street and not being completely focused, sort of like a chess game, but the kind if I lose the outcome could be catastrophic. Never stop analyzing the the road conditions and traffic.

All great advice by everyone. It is very important that ALL of the little things add up to keep you safe. Scene P3 on rear and Clearwater yellow lower than the headlight in the front. I have been riding like this since 2007. Up till then, way to many close calls starting in 1970. Since 2007, with the Clearwater yellow in front and Skene P3 in much more respect. One other little thing ( that can be a big thing) is the newer CW lights when you hit horn 3 fast short bursts or flash high beam 3 fast times... the yellow lights then blink another 5 times. Words can not express how this action wakens the sleeper / inattentive cager. Ride safe, ride far! Merry Christmas!

Well said

The crash & death stats are So Bad because of the reckless and irresponsible actions of some.

Idiots treat public roads like a track and think they are invincible rather than invisible, while riding in the most dangerous place for a rider.

The good news is the risk for people train, practice, wear good gear and respect the environment is
Much Lower than the 30 X the stats say.

Stay away from 18 wheelers, those tires blow up when you are next to them.
Ride with the high beans on durind the day.
Hiper flashing brake lights really keep cars from rear ending you.
Stay away from people on the phone.

Good stuff Kevin, thank you. You should come out to Awake in Carrollton one Sunday morning (7am) and join us for breakfast… there’s always several Goldwing riders there and we’d love to say hello.

With the addition of LED lights on the front and a Clearwater taillight on my BMW the majority of vehicles keep their distance from me. Since the local State Police ride bikes similar to mine, wearing a high visibility jacket really gets their attention! LOL. Great video 😊

Great refresher! I’ve noticed a lot of accidents or left-hand turns in front of motorcyclist therefore, I often move my lane position several times to break the plane as I approach a left-hand turning motorist.

Everything is you being smarter and more aware of everything! I’ve been riding over 55 years commute to work ride to the rallies ect..
Being a good rider is useless if you can’t read the road and the traffic… everyone is out to run you down they just don’t know it

White helmet, high-vis jacket in winter, ATGATT, stay at a safe speed (5 mph delta to other traffic), practice rusty skills (in a parking lot) if a week+ lapse since last riding, lane positioning to maximize visibility (to be able to see as much road in front as possible, and ensure you are as visible to other motorists as possible), and keep your head on a swivel and always be planning your escape routes if other driver does something they shouldn't.

Kevin captured all of the best tips in this video.

normal riding I have had more than one car pull out while looking me in the eyes, so I thought.
thanks for the refresher!

45 years on the street a thing I have learned is people will follow you at same distance you are following the car in front of you. Are people tailgating you? While not always the case look at how close you are following vehicle in front of you.

Great advice. Constantly see riders exposing themselves to extreme risks. I quit street riding when our state started using sealer that's like ice on hot days. Too much like Russian Roulette.

I have found that a modulated headlight does a great job of catching the attention of drivers in front of / approaching me. It flashes high-low, not on-off.

Your road strategy instruction is the best! I just installed a pair of Clearwater Ericas with amber lens caps and although I don't count on drivers seeing me, I am really hard to miss!
And if that fails, my Clearwaters include the photon torpedo option.

Re: visibility. Make ‘em see you with their ears! Loud pipes don’t save lives. But obnoxious horn honking does!!!! I’ve ridden for 45 years. Every pair of gloves I’ve ever owned always gets a hole in my left thumb first. THOU SHALT EXEMPLIFY THESE VIRTUES: Horn horn horn. Safe following distance. Head on a swivel. Properly maintained bike. Sobriety. Limited distractions. Throttle discipline. That’s the Zen Commandments. Shiny side up yall

Some have suggested using high beams during the day, I suggest changing the headlight bulb to LED and adding auxiliary lights in a triangle configuration. It has been shown thar we recognize a triangles better than straight lines hence the third brake light.
