I have the Genesis SO and I did managed to detach the cushion piece on the first day of using them. Later on I did get used to them, but I totally agree that they are not as easy entry as the basic Step On bindings.

Hopefully Burton can address the issues in later versions.

In terms of flex, I thought this is supposed to be even softer than regular Step on bindings.

Returned mine after 2-days for similar reasons. Went back to the original EST version.

On my second season in Genesis. 20-25 days per season. I haven’t had any issues whatsoever.
Fingers crossed!

I have the Burton Genesis Step ons. I hear your concern, but the proper way to step into them is toes first. Once your toe hooks are engaged, and you hear two positive clicking sounds to affirm you're locked, the heel naturally falls into place as you place your foot into the binding, you should then hear the 3rd and final click, affirming you're fully locked. You don't just stomp into them, especially with your heel first as you were demonstrating in the video. There is literally instructions included with them that describe how to properly get in and out of the binding. In addition, the instructions state if not done correctly you could risk injury or damage to equipment. Sounds to me like you were not stepping on to them correctly.

had step on for almost 2 seasons, step on X with dc boots then sold it for regular step on with photon bindings then sold it. i had this problem of heel lift, I even tried downsizing boots, adjusting the highback, or even placed some jbars none of them worked. sold it and got vans infuse + unions atlas and never looked back :) the nidecker supermatic is interesting tho but heavy

Supermatics suck!
1) are very heavy
2) the fact that they can be used as a traditional attack is a lie, you have to keep it always hooked slightly wide otherwise the "step in" system does not work. If you're on a particularly steep descent, you usually tighten your straps a little to make you feel more confident. If you do it with supermatics you ruin the adjustment and then throughout the day you can no longer use them with the "step in" system but only as with the straps.

It sucks!

I must say. I'm a Step-on X rider (snowboarding since 1988) and thought that there'd be yet another of those Step-on bashing videos that many biased riders have been making. However - this was an actual, well backed criticism about an obvious and clear fail in design that would be easily corrected by rounding the top part of the hammock over the highback top and making the heel cleat entry channel higher and wider.

A good take on a real design issue. I hope you've contacted B regarding this?

Ive been riding for 30 years and have the Step on X with Photons. This is the most advanced sensitive system I have used. Im fit and flexible so my reason to ride Step on’s is not for convenience it is more for the feel and they are light. 😊

I haven't had any issues stepping into my genesis model, but I really don't feel like the hammock is with the extra cost over the standard reflex model. I'm not even sure I can feel th high back through my Photon boots.

I bought these in Japans flagship Burton store. Had to return them on day one cos it was literally impossible to engage the heel in all the japanese powder (guess I can't complain too much 😂). I ended up with the regular strap pair and no issues so far.

I had the est Genesis x with straps, changed to the new Genesis step ons.. I like them but I feel they are softer and less responsive. I do feel sometimes I'm not fully locked in so I don't push as hard.. both set ups wih custom x.

I have the genesis as well and have never had that issue. I put the ball of my foot in first because I use more forward lean and have never hit the hiback. However I do prefer the regular step on because it’s more responsive.

I have been riding Step On 1 for one season and the Genesis version for 2 seasons now and I cannot confirm these issues. Entering the Genesis is no issue at all for me. However, disappointing and frustrating to me was that one toe clip broke off first day. But this has not happened again since.

genisis was too soft for me. went to the regular reflex and it was way better for me

I've heard of the mesh breaking off from the highback. I've never experienced it myself. I like the soft feel of the Genesis SO bindings. I can't wait to try out the Genesis EST SO bindings.

A friend of mine had exactly the same issue -- a crack in that plastic piece. However, to Burton's credit, I must say, it was promptly replaced under the warranty.

Do you think the same issues will arise with the new step on Genesis EST version? Would you still stick with the Reflex\X Reflex?

I bought the new Genesis ESTs in November and they look very different from these. I'm hoping this new model fixed the issues. Going to ride them this weekend.

These honest and valid reviews of the step on, just reaffirm my opinion that the genesis EST with straps that I own and are my favorite bindings ever. The fact you must buy new boots and bindings and they seem to increase weight and decrease board feel.

I was looking at the Genius bindings and you confirmed my worries. With the hook stuck in the net.
Got the standed one.

Plus...
The nidecker Don't fit all boots..
Some work better then others.
Take your boot to the shop if you're looking at them.
There is a video with a guy explaining it if you look..
Toe caps don't fit all boots.
And tread on the boots make it harder to get in and out .
