The quake was six miles deep (USGS). Quakes at the surface are the most destructive. Still 7.7 means that the earth shook for 60 to 90 seconds. Having survived a 7.2 myself, it's a very scary 60 seconds.

Building tall buildings in earthquake prone areas doesn't make any sense to me . Sad to imagine the people working in that building, prayers for their families. 😢
