Montage of opens, talent rejoins, and a morning news update from Scripps' ABC affiliate serving Western New York, based in Buffalo. All of these were recorded on Thursday, August 4, 2022.

WKBW rebranded from "7 Eyewitness News" to "7 News" at the start of the year, resurrecting a brand previously used from 2003-2008, arguably the era when the station lost most of its audience, never to return again despite Scripps' best efforts to turn the station around. WKBW in its earlier life dominated the Buffalo ratings but now finishes as the perennial third-rated newscast. With the change, the station also dropped its longtime "circle 7" logo in favor of a more generic design, although I don't really mind it. It's different from the usual circle 7 every ABC station on channel 7 has to have.

Graphics are the usual Scripps group package everyone hates, music is the custom Scripps group package from Stephen Arnold Music. Voiceover artist is Virginia Hamliton.

Anchors include Ed Drantch, Katie Morse, chief meteorologist Aaron Mentkowski, Mercedes Wilson, Emily Lampa, Jeff Russo, Lia Lando, Hannah Buehler, meteorologist Mary Beth Wrobel, and meteorologist Autumn Lewandowski.

First time seeing a rejoin with talent with the Scripps package. Gives me hope than maybe one station will do something similar for their open.

That station ID is so cheap and bland. This I what I would call "Cheap to bring in a effort". Overall, this station's legacy is literally thrown out the window and never been able to get back up ever again.

It looks like Scripps has thrown in the towel on this station. It’s a shame, because it has too rich of a history to be losing to mediocre Nexstar/Tegna stations (although I suppose WGRZ is pretty good). It just goes to show that regardless of a station’s history, it’s very difficult to regain lost viewers.
